Indigestion and Gaviscon at 7 months??

DD has always been a windy baby, needing lots of upright time, and backing rubbing to get her burps up. I introduced solids at 6 months -purees and finger foods and things were going well. DD still has a regular BM.

Recently, DD has been posseting after a feed, not mega amounts but enough for me to be concerned since this has never happened before. I can hear Her regurgitate as i burp her. She will also squirm a lot in her car seat and require frequent stops to burp her and our once smooth bedtime routine is now such a struggle as she likes to sleep on her tummy but can't as I believe she is in pain.

Took her to GP on Monday and was given Gaviscon for "indigestion". Used for last two nights and she seems a lot more settled. Took her to be weighed today and they have said she shouldn't be on Gaviscon, she shouldn't have these problems because she is sitting upright, active and putting on weight. They advised to go back to my GP.

So I'm really confused. Is it indigestion? The Gaviscon is working, although I don't want to be reliant on this. Has anybody else's baby developed indigestion, but not reflux, at 7 months plus.

Just looking for advice or support really as I really don't want to give her Gaviscon but at the same time I don't want her weaning to be interrupted.

Thanks.

Indigestion, as you've described it, and reflux are the same thing.

DD was on Gaviscon till she was well over a year, and DS was on Losec and Carobel (a milk thickener) till he was 15 months. They were both active, putting on weight and able to sit up at 6 months, but their digestive systems were a bit behind; some kids' just are.

DS is actually still bringing up bits of his meals sometimes, and he's 17.5 months now. But I'm happy for him to be off his medication because it doesn't seem to be bothering him; he's in very good form and sleeps well. For me, it's whether or not they're comfortable and happy that dictates whether or not they need treatment, not weight gain or milestones.

If I were you I'd follow the GP's advice and keep treating it (though I'd probably use Carobel rather than Gaviscon; having used both extensively we found Carobel more convenient and less constipating).

I have been told my by GP to try for 2 weeks to see if it makes a difference. And to be fair it has. I'm only giving it a night during her last feed. It is a bit of a faff but it instantly calms down DD. I just don't want her body to become reliant on it IYSWIM? How did you stop giving it to your DD?

Did it hinder your weaning onto solids - I.e. didmitmslow down the process or did you just continue as normal. If DD didn't have any problems I would be giving her a lot more solids because she wants them but I'm slightly reticent in case her stomach cannot handle it.

Also did you give with every feed?

Will ask about Carobel at next appointment.
