How do I wean my 11 month old?

My 11 month old is currently fed morning and night. I am ready to wean as I am heading back to work and it feels like the right time for us.

I can't seem to remember how I did this with my older DC. I think I will drop the night feed and a week later the morning feed. Does this seem right?

And should I replace these feeds with cows milk? DC turns 1 in 2 weeks (but was 5 weeks premature -not sure if that makes a difference?). Should I wait the 2 weeks to give cows milk and give formula in the meantime?

DC is not that keen on sippy cups so am thinking I will try giving the replacement milk in a bottle.

Any advice? I feel a bit lost! Thank you.

The current advice is to drop one feed every 2 weeks. This is to give Lo time to adjust and to reduce your risk of mastitis.

Even if he's not keen on the sippy cup I'd still nt swap to bottles, they're not recommended after 12 months anyway and it seems pointless if you've managed this far without them, once you've stopped bfing, the recommended amount of cows milk is 300.ml per day till they are 2. So if you mix milk with cereal in the morning and offer a sippy cup. Then give a sippy cup a couple of more times in the day everything should be ok.

Don't forget that you can include the milk used in cooking too so try blueberry pancakes, rice pudding, cauliflower cheese and fish pie Smile

Thank you Jilted. (You helped me when DC was a newborn -I have NC'd since then but you had great advice about sleeping that helped a lot -thank you!).

As fate would have it I came down with a virus during the night and was unable to breastfeed DC this morning. DH offered a bottle but no interest there so think will pursue sippy cup.

DC still has no teeth so will add milk to mushy food.

Thanks again.

Hope you feel better soon. I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of interest in the sippy cup. Both of mine refused to drink much cows milk until a few weeks after bfing had stopped completely. Now they both love it. Smile

Thank you -that makes me feel better.

Another thing you could try is giving her an open cup of milk in the bath at night. She will get used to an open cup without you worrying about the spills and the novelty should help to get some milk into her Smile
