I have just weaned my baby on to solids and he appears to be allergic to dairy, coming out in hives and having eczema flare ups after eating yoghurt etc. Does anyone have any experience of this and is it something they can grow out of?

Yes they can grow out of it but it can take a while. My baby was allergic to dairy and then also to soya so it was difficult until she was about 3 - then all the eczema, hives etc just disappeared. Try soya. Dairy is hidden in loads of food though so you'll need to check everything....

Please don't try soya unless it has been recommended by a HCP. Please go to your GP and ask for some allergy testing. That way you will know exactly what type of allergy dd has and will hopefully have access to a Paed Dietician.

Ths information on the allergy uk site might be useful and just so you know not everyone grows out of it, I have an intolerance and mine has never gone.

Forgot to say all supermarkets have lists of their foods which are dairy free, will make shopping a lot easier Smile

Thanks. I'm going to continue BF so don't have to worry about alternative Milk for the time being. Do you mind me asking what symptoms you get Jilted? When I went to the GP he was very dismissive, he and the HV just said keep trying it every now and again to check if he's grown out of it

Mines more of an intolerance so it used to be vomiting, now is just bloating and nausea.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/06/2013 20:17

Think that's pretty poor advice from your HCPs too, but am not Shock

They seem so reluctant to do anything about it. Do you have to take a calcium supplement?

OP posts:
JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/06/2013 21:14

Yes I do but if you are bfing, there should be no need to supplement Lo. What have they said about your diet?

Have you read the allergy uk link?

Just thinking about the future really as he may not grow out of it, nothing they really didn't seem too bothered TBH luckily I don't eat a huge amount and he doesn't seem to react to any traces in my Milk. Yes I did, it does correlate with the reactions I've observed in him.

If it was me, I'd go back to the GP and take DH with me, if that were possible.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/06/2013 21:44

Have you tried posting on the allergy board too hungry?

1Veryhungrycaterpillar · 17/06/2013 21:55

Ohh I didn't realise there was one, thanks For that Jilted
