6mo significant loss of appetite - should I worry?

Up to about 4 weeks ago my 27 wo ds was on 5 x 210ml formula per day. Since then his appetite has really dropped, first dropping about 150ml per day and since we have started weaning its a struggle to get him to have 600ml per day. He's not really interested in food either, apart from yoghurts, so is having 40ml porridge and then 30g savoury plus 40g fruit twice a day (or a 110g yoghurt once a day). Most nights he's now waking for a small feed around 2am (100ml)

He's between the 75th and 91st lines and his weight has stayed on the line for the last month, so should I worry? To me he's just not having enough but he's not interested at all. I'm using the follow on formula in an attempt to give him the right vitamins etc.

It might be possible that the food is filling him up and making him less interested in milk, even though it doesn't seem like he's eating a lot. Could you try dropping the food for a few days and see if the milk volume increases?

I did BLW with my ds and at 27 weeks he was eating very little in comparison to your ds, as he wasn't yet able to pick up and chew very well. He was breastfeeding as much as usual during this time. Your ds seems to be eating a fair amount to me - three meals a day where at the same age I would have possibly even only offered one meal a day.

If you are at all worried I'd give your health visitor a ring. That said, it sounds like he is doing brilliantly and as long as his weight gain is consistent and you keep on offering different foods I'm sure he's fine. Lots of my friends DC seemed to suddenly drink less milk at that age, seems like they get bored of it!

Thanks. Its very confusing, especially when friends babies (both bigger and smaller) are having a lot more food and milk per day. I'm now panicking, after reading another thread, that he has an upper lip tie and that's part of the problem?

I'm definitely an over-worrier!

I'm an over-worrier too! Think all babies are different. I like this book My Child Won't Eat which is very reassuring about babies and toddlers and food.
