Weaning in France

We're about to go on holiday to France for three weeks, with our eight month old DD.

She usually eats mostly finger foods, steamed veggies etc, with one pouch meal per day. I usually buy Hipp, Ella's or Plum, to avoid additives, and because they taste good so I feel like I'm giving DD reasonable quality food.

The difficulty is that DD will only eat mush directly from a pouch, or i would take the obvious route of mashing as we go.

My question is, does anybody know if there are equivalent brands/food types are in France? Do they even use purée pouches? What baby foods are commonly available? Or do you have any magic tips to help?

Share the wisdom, please!

Hi,
My baby hasn't quite started weaning yet but so far I haven't seen/noticed any pounches but I have seen HIPP pots in supermarkets, Intermarche and Carrefour.

I will be going to a big supermarket over the next couple of days so will have a better look for the pouches an let you know what I find.

We have holiday home in France- Ime both kids loved French baby food ESP the bledina range (not organic) and I have to ration Pom pots (get the non sugar version) as they will chain eat them.

Gigondas · 03/06/2013 21:30

And no pouches but some fresh options in bigger Carrefour and lots of choice on shelves so you won't lack choices. The half milk/half fruit purees went down well when kids starting out -its on shelves.

They sell pouches at our local organic shop. Possibly at the supermarket too, but I haven't looked.

Thanks for your feed back, it's so silly, there are so many things I could give her if she would just let me get a spoon in her!

I'd really appreciate it if you are able to look in the supermarket Brioche, and I'll bear in mind about the organic shops too.

Went to a Leclerc today and there were no pouches, every flavour puree you can imagine though...

There were also flavoured cereal things that you add to a bottle to make a meal IYSWIM?

If she eats finger foods the rest of the time it might be worth just bringing a pouch a day along with you? Does anywhere do a pouch that you can refil?

I love it, Alice Ethel has a lovely ring to it. Rose is a beautiful name but I feel it will be the Louise of the 2010's...

Wrong thread!!!

They do fruit pouches but you'll probably find them in the dessert section of the shops as fruit compotes are as popular with adults as they are with children. Not only delicious but also way cheaper than the British equivalent, like this: Pom Potes

For savoury there's a huge variety but in pots not pouches

HappyJoyful · 04/06/2013 15:37

You could take enough pouches with you for 3 weeks? Or, did see Jojo Maman do refillable pouches but didn't have great reviews..

MummyWeatherwax · 04/06/2013 17:38

I may well end just taking some pouches then- thanks for your advice. I think I'll look into a refillable pouch too, or at least see if I can cannibalise some!

Thank you!
