Best highchair for BLW

Hi there

We are 2 months into BLW and it is going well so far. However the highchair we have (Chicco) is causing difficulties. It is very padded and comfortable etc, but the foods gets into all the tiny spaces and I am taking the whole thing apart and scrubbing it daily to try and stop it smelling. Also the tray is far too high so we have to hold the tidy dinner in front of DD whilst we eat our dinner too. I can't help but think a less fancy high chair, with a lower tray, that I can simply wipe down with antibac spray would be sooooo much easier. Any suggestions please. Around £30 budget, give or take a tenner (although I dont mind 2nd hand and can search ebay and gumtree etc) :@)

THe Ikea antelop is what you need.

MrsLettuce · 28/05/2013 16:22

here

If you were able to spend a little more, we have the M&P Pixi and that's really easy to clean too. But yes, the Ikea ones are great.

Hanginggardenofboobylon · 28/05/2013 16:22

The only answer you will get on here is Ikea Antilop and for good reason- its fab fling it in dishwasher or in sink after each use.

JollyOrangeGiant · 28/05/2013 16:22

Second the antilop. You can have one that slides up to the table or one with a tray.

TheSurgeonsMate · 28/05/2013 16:24

This is a MN no brainer - answer is and always will be the Antilop. Gives you the option, too, of not using the tray but pulling the chair right up to the table.

Whatalotofpiffle · 28/05/2013 16:26

Ikea!! I had exactly the same issue

CMOTDibbler · 28/05/2013 18:16

Antilop - can use at the table or on its own, lasts for ages, can take the legs off for travel, and it goes in the dishwasher!

DoTheBestThingsInLifeHaveFleas · 28/05/2013 20:03

Wow, well with this outstanding recommendation, I will get straight onto the Ikea website, pronto. Ikea should be paying mumsnet royalties for this. Thanks all x

My friend has the Antilop and loves it, although she says its getting a little snug around the tummy for her LO (8mo) which sounds odd.

We have a Phil and Teds Lobster. It bolts straight onto the table and DD loves being at the table with us (we had a 'normal' high chair before which she wasn't keen on)

It does get messy but you can easily take the fabric part off the metal frame and one of us takes it into the shower with us and rinses it through. It dries over night, or during the day if we're going out.

Jojay · 28/05/2013 20:22

Sparklekitty - your friend's 8 mth old must have a chubby tummy - my 2 yo twins still fit in their antilops just fine and 6 yo DS climbed in for a laugh the other day!

janey223 · 28/05/2013 20:34

If you can't get to ikea DS has the graco tea time from asda an its not too bad, just throw the tray in the sink and wipe down the seat. It was £9 in the last day of the baby event!

PoppyAmex · 28/05/2013 20:40

Good god - DD is 4 months, on the 98th percentile (both heigh and weight) and she has plenty of wiggle room on the Antilope.

It is a fab product, I'm getting a second one for the upcoming baby.

JollyOrangeGiant · 28/05/2013 20:58

DS is 25mo and is large for his age and still fits in the antilop just fine.

PoppyAmex · 28/05/2013 21:32

Blah meant to say DD is 14 months / not 4.

Anyway, plenty of space.

DoTheBestThingsInLifeHaveFleas · 28/05/2013 21:33

Have ordered one, it was £12, plus £4 for the tray!!!!! I even went crazy and got the padding for £5. Wow, what a result.

I know a 35 year old man who managed to squeeze into the Antilop as his dinner party 'trick' - he did have trouble getting out though.... on a more serious note I used one for all 3 of my DC, great product, can be hosed down in the garden too!

sparklekitty · 29/05/2013 20:50

Yeah she thinks she might be doing something wrong, cushion blown up too much? Her LO isn't particularly big for her age.

CMOTDibbler · 29/05/2013 21:55

The cushion is only for when they can't sit up very well - she needs to take it out now

Jojay · 30/05/2013 12:38

Yes, get rid of the cushion now.

Teatimecakes · 30/05/2013 20:48

We have the chicco one - I can see that it 'd bed very comfy for bigger babies but my 7mo finds it huge (although he is 20lbs!!) and slides all over the place in it. The tray is also very high and he's clearly struggling to reach his food. Tried the ikea one in a cafe the other day and it was excellent! Less than half the price of the chicco one and sooooo much more practical
