Started weaning DS about a week before 6 months. He is now 29 weeks and very into food.
He is spoon fed porridge in the morning which he loves, and the rest of the day we give him finger food to eat. He pretty much refuses the spoon unless it is porridge or yogurt.
My problem is that when he has finger food he has taken to shoving loads in his mouth and pressing it into the roof of his mouth, then trying to stick more in! He keeps trying to put more food in even when he has good sticking out of his mouth.
Once he has compressed a load of food into the roof of his mouth he can quite happily keep it there for ages, I keep offering water etc but it still is there. Yesterday after 20 mins I ended up risking being bitten and fishing it out with my finger.
Is there anything I can do to help him realise he needs to swallow? Am I doing the right thing fishing it out? I can't spend hours sitting with him waiting and definitely want it out before he gets down from the high chair!
