Ha! That got your attention!

Obviously I don't mean to drink. I mean in say, a casserole that has cooked for 2 hours. The alcohol will have boiled off won't it?

I have, without a thought, until my friend looked at me askance yesterday when I served dd spag bol made with a serious red wine sauce....

Yes, there's no alcohol Smile

MajaBiene · 14/04/2013 14:13

A small amount of wine for 2 hours, then probably all the alcohol would have burned off - but actually it doesn't cook away as quickly as you'd think.

nagynolonger · 14/04/2013 14:14

Well I have and they seem to have turned out OK. They may even have had a taste of sherry trifle at their grandma's.

Sossiges · 14/04/2013 14:15

Absolutely - start as you mean to go on Smile

overmydeadbody · 14/04/2013 14:15

yes, in those circumstances

MajaBiene · 14/04/2013 14:15

Here: homecooking.about.com/library/archive/blalcohol12.htm

So after 2 hours, 90% of the alcohol would be gone.

Surely a child's portion would have to be 100% wine to cause any bother? A sip's worth is hardly going to cause cirrhosis.

leedy · 18/04/2013 19:18

Yup, the amount of wine involved would be miniscule after cooking.

I would probably draw the line at my late great-aunts' sherry trifle, which was so alcoholic I remember feeling slightly tipsy after a bowl of it.

elfycat · 18/04/2013 19:27

I'd say yes to letting them taste wine (as long as it's not a sweet one) too. They're not going to like it and want to try more.

A long cooked casserole is fine imo, but not something Flambéed at the end of cooking as that can still be boozy afterwards.

lougle · 18/04/2013 19:32

Except that it's now illegal if they are under 5 years old, elfycat.

elfycat · 18/04/2013 19:33

Lol, true, but have you ever watched a toddler 'minesweeping' at a party? I stopped my 3yo nephew quite quickly but he was being extremely sneaky.

lougle · 18/04/2013 19:34

No, I haven't Hmm

MrsWembley · 18/04/2013 19:40

I always do my spag bol with wine...

elfycat · 18/04/2013 19:41

The glasses on the table kept moving a bit and someone laughed about poltergeist stuff. The nephew was coming behind the sofa to sneak drinks and I caught him. BIL didn't believe me so I bet he'd got away with it before.

MrsWembley · 18/04/2013 19:48

Oh ffs! I meant rectify...
