How do you fit it all into one day?

DS is 6mo and we started weaning 2 weeks ago. Since we started at 6 months, HV recommended we go straight up to 2 solids per day. He's been having baby porridge mid-morning and then a different type of puree in the afternoon.

I've been offering BF first and waiting for him to have his fill. A proper feed will usually be 20min each side. I then offer the solid a little while later.

Given that DS can only stay awake 1.5-2 hours max it is proving difficult to fit it all in. He currently has 4 or 5 BFs and 3x 45-60 min naps each day. He doesn't always want to eat as soon as he wakes either.

How do you fit it all in? Does your LO ever have a session between naps where they don't actually eat anything, i.e. they get tired before they get hungry?

I've noticed that his 2nd feed of the day (mid-morning) is often very distracted and he doesn't always have a lot of milk. Maybe I shouldn't stress so much about it?

I guess I'm just worried about making sure he's getting enough for healthy development (and also good sleep as the days when he only has 4 feeds tend to be followed by a 3am-4am wake-up feed where he is genuinely hungry).

Advice appreciated.

I stuck to meal times for solids so they had them at the same time as adults etc.

Milk was first thing, mid morning, mid afternoon and last thing before bed. To fit it all in we had to get into some sort of routine. But I doubt he ever got hungry. At some point, maybe 7 months, we dropped the afternoon feed and had lunch a bit later.

We stuck to adult mealtimes more or less to so Lo would have breakfast when we did, they woke up earlier so had already had a feed. Then lunch at around 11.30-12is but if Lo was to tired I'd just skip lunch. Food is more about exploring taste and texture at this age, its far more important that Lo has the milk.

We carried on milk feeds as normal - first thing, mid morning, mid afternoon and bedtime - and offered solids at our mealtimes, as others have said. If he was asleep or tired at a mealtime then we didn't worry about the solids for that meal; at this early stage, it really doesn't matter if they have less solids some days.

Thanks for the info. I guess I've gone and let the HV's words get me again (happened once at about 3 months re slowing weight gain). This time she said I should wean quicker, solids twice a day, and try to get proteins started asap due to iron and vitamins etc.

After the last botheration, I swore to myself that I'd listen politely to HVs then weigh it up with what I've read and throw in a little instinct for good measure.

I echo everyone else, kept milk feeds the same and they joined us when we were having meal times.
Definitely trust your instinct on this one! No need to rush at all Smile

It's so easy to get knocked off kilter by the HVs isn't it.
