How much Solid food vs Milk at 7 mo old!

my ds is 7.5 mo old and eating quite well at present. However I notice he can't eat a proper meal and have his milk. How much per meal does a 7mo old need? Can I drop any milk feeds or do I drop the solids to make him take his milk. This is mainly an issue in the evening. He will eat lots at 5pm possibly about 150-200g food but then only want 2oz milk at bedtime - which is not enough. What do I alter? Am I feeding too much at 5pm?

I'd drop the solids myself in favour of milk. If you check Kellymom, you'll see that even up to 12 months, babies should be having the majority of their cals from milk rather than solids.

Hi, my ds is 7 months. I feed him solids an dmilk seperatly. He has his milk feeds as usual then a solid feed in between. I only give him a small amount of solids (1 ice cube size)as he seems to get easily constipated if i give him any more. Our routine is something like

7.00am milk feed
9.00am Apple or pear (1 ice cube size)
11.00 milk
1.00pm Veg (carrot, swede, or squash etc etc - 1 cube)
3.00pm milk
7.00pm milk
11.00pm milk
3.00am milk etc etc etc

Don't know if it's right/ideal/etc etc but it works for us.
I read somewhere that when you first start weaning they should be having the same amount of milk and any solids were in addition to that rather than instead of to keep their calories up.

dd2 is about the same age. i agree that the milk is the most important thing at this stage. the food is just to get them used to different textures and tastes mostly. Someone will correct me of i'm wrong but you should be aiming for about a pint of milk (that can include milk that makes up food, e.g sauces or in cereal etc). I know it's not to easy to measure if you're breastfeeding though.

to give you an idea:
dd2 has a bottle (about 5oz) when she wakes up and then i weetabix with whole milk about 1.5 hours later
bottle after nap at about 11.30/12
smallish lunch at 1/1.30
bottle after nap at about 3.30/4pm
tea and pud at 5/6pm
bottle at 7/7.30 before bed

also agree with piggiesmum about milk and solids separately, otherwise he will be getting full up all at once. eventually he will want less milk at each feed which will slowly dwindle over the next few months. HTH
