Weaned-from-breast baby won't drink milk

I weaned from the breast gradually. By 12 months it was just bedtime bf. Ds also has a cup of formula in the afternoon but this is hit and miss, sometimes drinks 4 oz, sometimes nothing. He never ever accepted a bottle. One week ago i decided to stop the breast entirely and we're just offering a cup at bedtime. We've tried the formula. We've tried cows milk. We're lucky to get an oz or two into him. He cries and complains and pushes the cup away.

I'm not worried about calcium as he eats dairy, but he's waking up in the night hungry and then will drink from his cup! We are slipping into a bad 3am cup feeding habit. He was a good sleeper on old routine. Wish i could switch breast milk back on!

Any tips for getting a previously breastfed baby to drink from cup at bedtime? And how should I handle night hunger wakings to avoid a bad habit?

How long is it since you stopped bfing and how old is your Lo?

Hi, I BF both my children DD til 15 months and DS till 2 yrs, although I was ready to finish way before this, he wasn't. I found with both of them that neither would drink formula or cows milk, although happy to have cows milk on cereals. I spoke to my HV who said as long as they were eating a good balanced diet with a variety of dairy produce they would be fine. At night time they always had water if they were thirsty and for a time I also offered half a weatabix with warm milk before bed. This eliminated their waking hungry. Gradually over a few months both began drinking cows milk on their own. HTH

The weetabux idea is an interesting one. He is one year and 2 weeks old and I last breastfed him 8 nights ago. Any other thoughts?

Dd didn't drink milk at this age. But she enjoyed a bowl of plain natural yogurt before bed, yeo valley is a good one.

If you want to bf again your body will still be very able to produce milk. It takes months for that ability to go, if at all. The tricky thing might be getting your baby to nurse again but you won't know unless you try.
