Fussy eater

My daughter is 18 mths and is extremely fussy with her food. All I can get into her is shreddries, toast, yogurt, purée fruit, processed chicken, chocolate!!!She's always been fairly fussy but I used to be able to get puréed cauliflower and roast dinners into her. Now she won't even try she pushes the bowl away from me. I'm constantly torn between just letting her live off shreddries just to get something into her or giving her the intended meal and then not giving her any alternative in the hope that she will work out that its this or nothing??? Any suggestions?

Really sorry, haven't got time for a full reply but hopefully this will bump for you.

While you wait for some replies, have a look at My Child Won't Eat by Carlos Gonzalez.

Sorry about that. Whichever you decide, I think its best to just choose one and stick to it. Our dd was extremely fussy and we decided to try and tackle it. We'd tried all sorts of things but once we just put the food in front of her, chatted amongst ourselves and basically ignored her, she started eating much more. In fact I can remember Dsil poking me in the ribs at a family meal. Dd had been quite vocal about not wanting the soup and had been ignored. Two minutes later she was happily tucking in and Dsil and I shared a quiet smile.

It takes a lot of patience but it is worth it, dd now enjoys many more foods and its easier for us to eat socially.

Thank you that's been really useful. I've ordered the book and feel straighter in my head that lottie will be given the same as us and not offered loads of alternatives. X fingers crossed.

That's exactly what we've done and our dd is so much better Smile

Ds 2.6 was the same and unfortunately we still have problems but its getting better!

We do the whole ignoring him whilst placing the different foods we have in front of him a d now he had two things (other than snack type things like shreddies, toast etc) which are spag Bol and mash which I usually hide some sneaky carrots into. I'm hoping with time he will keep on trying new foods Smile

snickers at that age my DS only ever wanted a cheese sandwich, now he's 8 and only refuses fresh tomato and courgettes. There is hope Grin

catherine which milk is Lo on and how much does she have in 24 hours?

Catherinevercoeash · 01/03/2013 15:26

She is on cows milk and has 5fl oz in morning and 6 b4 bed but more often than not wakes in the night for a bottle.

Between 12 and 24 months she should be on 10floz per day including milk used in things like cereal, custard, cauliflower cheese and fish pie etc,

If she is having 11+ a bottle in the night, you might want to think about dropping one, maybe the morning one. It may give her more of an appetite for the solids. Having said that my dd never really got the hang of solids properly until we dropped the bedtime milk and she realised if she didnt eat, there was nothing else coming her way. My dd was older though Smile
