Clueless about weaning - does this look of for nearly 7 month old?

I feel like I am blindly stumbling through weaning and worrying about whether DD is getting enough/too much. Would appreciate some advice on her current routine or if there is anything I should be doing differently.

7.30am - 180ml formula (Aptamil stage 3 follow on milk)
8.30am - porridge with fruit puree
11.30am - 180ml formula
12.30pm - puree of veg (trying to introduce meat but she's not keen on anything I've tried to give her with meat in so far).
3.30pm - 180ml formula
4.30pm - greek yoghurt with fruit puree
6.30pm - 180ml formula
11pm - 180ml formula (dream feed)

I offer her a sippy cup of water throughout the day and she will take little sips. I also offer her finger food regularly and she likes to play with it but I can't say that any makes it into her mouth,

DD is around 99th centile for height and weight (at 27 weeks she weighed 21lbs and measured 72cm in length). She seems happy and content, sleeps through and nappies are fine. She is not sitting up unaided yet but can sit in her high chair ok.

The HV said she should be having about 600ml of formula a day whereas she's currently having 900ml (she never leaves a drop). Should I be trying to drop a bottle/reduce the amount in each bottle?

Seems roughly ok, have you read the Mn weaning pages. There is a handy timetable.

Have you tried giving her the meat to hold herself? We used to give dd strips of chicken, pork or beef, whatever we had in.

Have you thought about offering some other finger foods too? Maybe a sandwich at lunch or some eggy bread and fruit?

Thanks. Will check out the weaning pages...I tend to forget that there's more to MN than the talk boards! Blush

When I give her finger foods, she just smooshes them into the high chair/her clothes/her hair. Which is fine (the dog does a good cleanup operation on whatever ends up on the floor) but she doesn't actually seem to eat any of it. Any tips for helping her to learn to feed herself?

Just let her practice. Our dog did well out of weaning too Smile Strips of sandwiches/toast.crumpet/eggy bread/ thin slice roast beef/ cooked veg/fruit are all good - using a crinkly chip cutter like this makes them less slippy to hold.

Flisspaps · 26/01/2013 12:26

What Santa said - just keep offering and letting her learn. Eventually she will get it to her mouth!

Sounds like you're doing great! My two weren't on three proper meals until about 10-11 months in fact DD refused all food until 8 months old!

Bread/toast or rice cakes were the easiest things for my DCs to start with
Carrots, pepper, parsnip, squash, sweet potato - etc - I roasted them in strips/batons and then mushed some up and gave the others to hold
Broccoli florets also very easy

Thanks all :) You've reassured me that I'm on the right lines and not getting it totally wrong.

Will persevere with giving her a variety of food to play with and hopefully she'll soon get the idea that it can go in her mouth as well as everywhere else. I'll have a disappointed dog on my hands though when she gets the hang of it :)

Next time you have pasta you could try putting sone on her highchair for her to play with eat while you feed her. Al the above suggestions are good though, just wanted to add omelette Smile
