Little 12 month old and BLW

My dd is a titch. She's about the size of an average 9 month old. She will be 1 at the end of the month. She is about between the 2nd-9th centile (she always has). She was born 3 weeks early. I do BLW and am really enjoying the freedom of it (pureed food for the other 2 dc). But I am worried about her intake of food. Typically her day goes something like this
7am bottle, ususally takes 7oz out of 8oz offered.
7.30-8 breakfast (usually baby weetabix, the little ones you can get, plus bits of fruit).
9.00 Has a nap on way back from school run
11.30-12 has lunch, which is usually toast and houmous, or crumpet, carrots cooked slightly soft, fruit, yoghurt
2.30-3pm Bottle 6oz usually
5-5.30pm Tea/Supper Always cooked as other 2 have packed lunch. Things like spag bol, chicken and noodles etc.

I have started to panic she is not eating enough. Can anyone reassure me/tell me off? She's such a little dot and I have a horrid health visitor who always tells me off.

Is she growing? Is she hungry? Is she active (crawling/walking/alert etc.)?

If the answers are YES, NO, YES, then she's very unlikely to be getting too little, she's following her centile, she's growing, she's eating a fair bit of food, just keep offering it. You could make more snacks available in between meals too.

Good way of looking at it. So yep crawling, standing up, cruising furniture etc. She will eat a bit. She is a v happy baby so I know I shouldn't worry but other dc were mini sumos, and also weaned on mush. Thanks lots for reassuring meSmile

My DD sounds just like yours and is exact same age. She has a big appetite so I do need to keep plying her with snacks (e.g. cheese, rice cakes etc) between meals. She's started walking now and is quite busy so maybe she just uses up what she eats pretty quickly? Sounds like your DD is eating really well so wouldn't worry.

Curtsey, that makes me feel better. It's so tricky. I have been relaxed about weaning this one, but all of a sudden I feel like I've been too relaxed. My dd has juicy thighs so she's not exactly skin and bone. Smile

DD2 is tiny as well, so I did let her have some of the Ella's Kitchen baby brekkie pouches as well as finger food at that age (I felt it still counted as BLW as she fed herself on them and indeed would wander over to the fridge, grab one and wave it at me insistently). It was definitely more stressful than BLW DD1 who has always hovered around 95th centile and was virtually spherical at 12 months - but I think that would have been the case however I'd weaned her.

Does she have a bedtime bottle?

If so, could you swap the afternoon milk for a snack of cheese sticks and or yoghurt?

luckywinner · 09/01/2013 12:40

That's a good idea about Ella's kitchen pouches. And also changing afternoon bottle for snack. I only gave her 5 oz yesterday in the afternoon. She didn't eat huge amounts at supper but we were at a friends house where there was lots going on. Also she had worked her way through a pot of her friends poppadoms! I think I'll just keep plodding along. I really really appreciate everyone's advice though. Good tips too.Smile

My DS is 15 months and is also tiny on the 0.4 percentile. At 12 months he had the following:

6oz of cows milk and 2 full weetabix and toast.

Sandwiches two slices of bread and cream cheese, fruit or yogurt and sometimes both or crisps occasionally

Afternoon snack of a biscuit, youghurt, fruit, toast or jelly

Tea cooked chicken some form of potates and veg abd other mixtures of meat

Supper a weetabix and 7 oz of milk. Also a mid morning snack if needed.

Although he does have a health issue and has to have extra calories to maintain his weight otherwise i tink hed be a bit bigger.
