A Few Weeks In - 6.5 months old

Hi,

I was just wondering how many meals other 6.5 months old babies are on? We are now into our 4th week of weaning (traditional, loosely following AK's book) and I have stuck with just breakfast and lunch and occasionally some finger food at teatime but this is not very often (yet). I was planning on moving to 3 meals this week but have decided to stick with 2 for the time being due to a very bad bout of constipation that had DD crying in pain and DP & I being visibly traumatised at seeing a poo try to come out but go back in!

(A puree of prunes, apricots and pairs has remedied this though, phew).

She is having the following at the moment

Early - BF
Breakfast - fruit puree
Late Morning - BF
Lunch - veggie puree
Late Afternoon - BF
Teatime - BF followed by occasional finger food if i'm not wresting with DS and his dinner
Bedtime - BF
(Then a middle of the night BF).

Am I okay just sticking with the 2 meals for a while to let her digestive system adjust? The plan is to stick with finger foods for her dinner (I did BLW with DS but doing more traditional weaning with DD). She is keen to grab food off our plates but also quite happy to take a spoon.

If I stick with 2 meals could I introduce yoghurt/fromage frais after one of them?

Thanks
Pie

Of course you can stick with 2 meals if you prefer, some babies are still ebf or just on one meal at that age.

Don't worry and just go with the flow Smile.

Have you read the MN info on weaning? There is some good info including a handy timetable.

You're doing very much what I'm doing with ds, also 6.5 months.

He tends to get quite ratty and grumpy later in the day so at the moment he tends to be most enthusiastic for breakfast and lunch and sometimes he just wants milk for dinner / 4.30 pm ish. 5.30 onwards is bedtime so he wants his bottle then as well!

I'm assuming as he gets older and more into food he will want dinner.

Just going with the flow really. I think there's too much pressure to get onto 3 meals a day. All in good time!

I'm doing traditional weaning too. After a nasty choking incident with dd who is now 9 years old I won't do blw so ds is progressing through the puree to textured to tiny bits of mush etc.. not a popular way to go but the only way I can bear it!

He loves yoghurt and the ellas puree apple one. He also loves plum lamb and mint which is a little bit lumpy.

Fairy sorry to hear that your Dd choked but you do know that doing purees doesn't equate to no choking? Have you thought about doing a Paed first aid course?

Fairylea · 03/01/2013 21:10

Oh I know.. it's just a way of keeping my sanity as the risk is smaller. I have done a first aid course and my dh is the registered first aider at his work but I'm still a bag of nerves ... ! I have a separate thread on here about it.

Thanks though.

Can completely see why Fairy.
