Baby -Led Weaning - 7 month old showing signs of frustration

It all started off so well and within a couple of weeks he was eating the same as us.

Now he seems a bit frustrated that the food just isn't coming as quick as it would be on a spoon. Did anyone else find this with baby-led weaning ?

I'll assume from the response that all the BLW-experts are all off-line (please don't tell me you go out on Saturday nights?), or none of you experienced this, or you didn't understand my message. Or all of the above ?

Saturday night is quiet, Saturday night on MN during school hols is very very quiet. Not that many people do blw, either, (or know that they are doing it) i imagine.

Maybe he was really excited about food initially and now he's not getting the same satisfaction? Is he just very hungry and can't feed himself fast enough?

I did some BLW and a bit of mush (V boring), I think all children go through phases of both "can't get it in quick enough" and "never want to eat again" no matter which way you try.

Cos I'm greedy and a quick eater I used to finish my own dinner and if DS was struggling with his I'd then feed him with a spoon whilst he used his hands/own spoon (can't remember when we gave him cutlery but it's always fun to play with).

Ah, yes, Easter hols. I'm on maternity time-warp, so had forgotton - thanks!

Yes, perhaps he would do the same if I was spoon feeding. Will stick at it and see what happens. Smile

Hi

We have started with the BLW in the last week or so and have found for the frustration point of view we need to use finger foods and mush - he uses the spoon hiself and adds the finger food inbetween v v v messy but successful. Starting the second week now and we can't eat in front of him at all

We are mushing half a banana into baby rice or porridge so still lumpy and then cutting the other half up into finger food

LOL that's how I started - with breadsticks!!! DS first food was a pizza crust he snatched from my plate so I figured he's like them (bad mummy)

TBh ds has fed himself from very early on both finger food and using a spoon himself (very messy) but he often gets bored or if he is very hungry he gets frustrated so I just help him along a bit by offering him some food on a spoon myself.

A mix of BLW and spoon feeding is what I do. If he doesn't want me to feed him he lets me know so I just assume he isn't hungry or is happy to feed himself and leave him to it but often he opens his mouth wide and eats loads so I figure he needed some help.
