How much milk does my 6 month old need?

Hi my baby is six months old and has five bottles of formula a day, 200 mls at a time. I have read that he only needs 600 mls now. So I am wondering if I should substitute two bottle feeds with cooled boiled water? In addition to the five bottles he has two lots of purees, about two ice cube portions at a time. Should I put him on more solids? Help!!?? thanks!

As far as I understand it, the 600mls is a minimum. Gradually increase the solids and I think he should start reducing the feeds. Although, my DS is only 8 months so I'm relatively new to all this too so I'm not totally sure Grin

He should be on around 20floz a day which is about a pint, which is about 600ml. This is based on them having protein at lunchtimes (i.e., meat, lentils, cheese etc, and other diary products like yoghurt/fromage frais etc. And having 3 meals a day.

Hope this helps!

My 6 month old is on three meals a day, none of which are pureed. This is on HV advice - I wouldn't have done it off my own bat - but it works and she's really cut down on her feeds. She loves finger food and, despite not having any teeth yet, will munch her way through pretty much anything - bread sticks, tomatoes, bits of meat... Just a thought.
