What bread can a 7month old have?

Have read conflicting things about what bread you can give babies.

Some say wholemeal as its healthy others not wholemeal as can constipate them.

What do you give? How do you give it? And in what form?

just bread!
i used to toast it and butter it and cut it into fingers so it was easy to hold.

I give wholemeal, as toast or sandwiches. Haven't had any constipation issues. I stick to one slice a day though, because of salt content.

jmum6 · 28/03/2006 15:24

Oh God, hadn't even thought about salt content.

Why would wholemeal be constipating? Surely it has more fibre than white bread so if anything it should be white bread that constipates?

Racers · 28/03/2006 15:28

We make our own bread sometimes so that lead me to think of the salt content. Not sure if there's much difference, but the home stuff has less in the way of preservatives etc. There's a thread somewhere on salt content in bread - it's been discussed recently.

led me, I mean

jmum6 · 28/03/2006 15:32

Not sure about the constipation thing - something to do with all that fibre - maybe it was the other way round then!

I would think that the salt content is not an issue as lo would only have a slice a day - I gave DS wholemeal and never had any problems, particularly if their liquid intake is good - I would just obviously skip granary or seeded bread -

Will try some toast as finger food and see what happens. But won't he choke?

jmum6-relax he/she'll be fine!!! don't leave her alone when eating anyway and you'll be able to sort out any problems.

Thanks alexsmum - I know I'm such a worrywart when it comes to food. Blush
