WHat kind of cheese can I give DS as finger food?

We normally have mature cheddar in the house. Is this too strong to give DS as a finger food? He's 28 weeks and has been weaning on purees for nearly four weeks.

Try it & see. My kids have all loved curry - some just like the stronger tastes.

Personally I would say it was a bit strong and too salty for one so little. What about an extra mild one to begin with or of you wanted to mix some into his puree just for taste how about using a ricotta or mascarpone?

Mind you ds is now 22 months and loves strong cheddar , the stronger the better!

DS at 9 months loves strong cheddar (gave him it by mistake - had originally bought the mild stuff for him). I checked the salt content of loads of cheeses and found it was all high, but since he doesn't eat much, I decided he could have just about any cheese apart from feta.

I get gouda which comes ready-sliced, then tear up the slices into strips and DS lurves them. He actually loves any cheese but I try to limit the really strong ones for now, and avoid the really salty ones (he's 9mo).

Never thought about the salt being high!!

I bought some mild cheddar today which I may try to give DS tom lunchtime as a finger food after he's had his main meal. How much should I give him? A stick? A small cube the size of a dice? A big chunk? I know he'll only be experimenting with it rather than eating that much.

A question for you all, what is considered high/low salt content? ie how many grams per 100grams (for instance)

I work on the basis that he can't have more than 1g a day and should be having significantly less than that. So, if there's enough salt in something so that i can count it, then it's high! But because DS doesn't eat much of anything really (apart from fruit and BM) then a little bit of cheese or half a bread roll won't push him over the limit.
