My dd is 23 weeks old. I'm going back to work on Tuesday and have been slightly concerned about her milk intake while she is with the childminder.
After advice on another thread I set up, I think I am going to send a "breakfast" to the CM for dd. (She's been having fruit and veg purees for the past few weeks). Anyway, she doesn't like baby rice or rusks, so I'm wondering what to give her for breakfast? Do I give her another fruit or veg puree in addition to the one I am sending for lunch? What do babies like for breakfast? Can anybody recommend a good food for brekkie?
Cheers!

(Last neurotic thread I set up for today, I promise!)

i never hgave mine either
they had banana or taost or weetabix

Hmm Boots do a baby porridge which mine liked. Would recommend readybrek once she hits 6 months. Or alternatively could you mix some fruit puree with some natural yoghurt to make a lovely creamy fruity concoction?

Elf1981 · 19/03/2006 13:08

Thanks! Think I have some baby porridge already, will try her to see if she likes that. Will probably try that as not too sure how the toast would go down at the moment!

weetabix mixed with warm milk so it goes nice and soft (no sugar needs to be added!)

kipper22 · 19/03/2006 13:08

weetabix is a big favourite - especially with banana mashed in.

Elf1981 · 19/03/2006 13:08

Oooh, can they have weetabix?
I like the idea of foods that can have EBM added so I know she's getting some sort of milk!

oh god yes!

kipper22 · 19/03/2006 13:15

lorraine kelly reccommends it! :)

Weetabix mixed with banana was a fave in our house.
Although I was told not to give it more than twice in a week as it could have explosive effects!

its normally recommended to hold off on wheat till 6 months due to the gluten so if you were avoiding wheat you might want to wait until your lo is 6 months before giving weetabix.

I used to get the packet powdered breakfasts which you mix with your lo's usual milk - there are quite a few without added sugar - you just have to read the packets carefully.

Am thinking of trying DS on weetabix for brekkie - so far he's had mashed up banana or baby porridge. He's 27 weeks and has been weaning for three weeks. How much weetabix should I give him? Is one too much?

Enid · 19/03/2006 18:51

porridge
toast
yogurt
eggs
fruit

and I used to buy muesli from health food shop and grind it in the food processor and give that too

threebob · 19/03/2006 18:55

At this age if she likes fruit or veg then send that.

cod · 19/03/2006 18:56

Seona1973 · 19/03/2006 19:15

smiling, I started off by offering a third of a weetabix mixed with warm milk until it went soggy. DD then moved to half and then a whole one but she did not take a big breakfast really until she was off her moring bottle - around 1 year. If your lo takes a lot of breakfast normally, I would try a half to start with - it makes up quite a lot once its absorbed the milk.

cod · 20/03/2006 09:35

well smiling?

Holymoly321 · 20/03/2006 19:12

Well cod,
I gave him a third of the weetabix this morning and he loved it! Very easy! I did give him the weetabix first ( I know you said give the milk first but I was too excited - how sad is my life now?!) Also gave him three 'cubes' for lunch and he would have taken more. Greedy little bugger! Thanks for all your help on the other thread - I gave him a baby rice cake after his puree - he mushed it all up - will try toast when I'm at home tomorrow!

cod · 21/03/2006 21:39

oh great! how has he been otday
have you had a weetabix nappy?

Holymoly321 · 21/03/2006 21:55

Not noticed anything diff about the nappies yet - but sure I will tomorrow! Today he had two thirds of a weetabix for breakfast, four (!) cubes of brocolli for lunch and a load of pear puree for dinner! Along with a couple of rice cakes (forgot to get bread when I was out!) All going very well.... so far!
