Hi All,
I have just starting giving my 6 month DS solids and thought I'd keep a little 'diary' of how it's going. Please comment/make suggestions/tell me to shut the hell up as you see fit!!
\link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=2400&threadid=155875&stamp=060318194431\This } was the start of my adventures.
So I guess I'll just take it from there!

SO yesterday was day 4.
I've been giving him baby rice in the latish morning and then veg for tea.
Last night was sweet potato, but it didn't go down well. Not sure if I'm going to try again with it or go back to carrot for tonight.
HE certainly likes the baby rice better than anything orange so far.

Tried to give a mix of everything tonight. Sweet potato, carrot and a bit of baby rice.
He may not be eating much, but he's certainly entertaining me!! First he makes a face, then gags a bit then does a fake scream like he's being poisoned.
I think I'll just leave the sweet potato for a bit.

Hi there PMD, I've been weaning DS for three weeks now (he was 25 weeks when I started) and so far he's had carrot (didn't really like), Sweet potato (loved), and parsnip (loved). Past two days I've been giving him a mashed up banana for breakfast - which goes down very well! He's up to having two cubes of food for lunch - but I may up this because he seems to want more. I'm also thinking of giving him finger foods soon - he grabbed a green bean and some yorkshire pud off DH's plate today and sucked on them for a bit! I'll give him the breakfast and lunch for the next couple of weeks and then move on to giving him three meals a day after that. I had started by giving him baby rice but it looked, smelled and tasted like rubbish so went straight onto real food. Have always made it quite thick - more like a thick mash potato consistency rather than runny like yoghart - as he started at 6 months I thought he would be able to handle a thicker type of puree and he has! I've made up some brocolli puree which I'll try him on tomorrow - not sure if he'll like it or not! Good luck with your lo - I'm determined not to get stressed with this whole weaning business!

Thanks Smiling. It makes it so much easier when there are others out there who are going through the same things!
I'm going to try a bit of fruit tomorrow for breakfast. not sure what though. I've got pear and banana, but the bananas aren't quite ripe yet. So pear and some paste, i mean babyrice!

Gave him a bit of pear.
I'm beginning to wonder if he's ready for solids.
The only thing he's really eaten is the baby rice.
Maybe I'll try the carrot again tonight just to see.
Maybe I'm just expecting too much. He's always been a big eater so I expect him to continue that trend. But maybe it'll take some time.
THIS IS HARD.

PMD, don't get stressed! Have you tried giving him the puree mixed with babyrice? Sometimes it's easier for them to take - less strong flavours. Also, all bubs are diff and some will take to it quickly and others may take a while. Honestly, don't get stressed! DS didn't like carrot the first time - and i'd make loads! Gave him some today mixed with parsnip and he liked it - it's all trial and error. Today I gave him weetabix for breakfast (a third of a biscuit) and he loved it. I'm going to try him with finger foods soon too. Basically, the way I look at it is your child is unlikely to get to the age of five and not eat anything, so when he wants more food he'll have it and just relax in the meantime - he's getting everything he needs from milk - food is just about diff flavours at the moment, not nutrition. HTH!

Took your advice about not getting stressed, SMiling.
I've just been leaving him to it, Gave him some cooked carrot sticks and he's started chewing on them a bit.
Gave him mushed up banana yesterday mostly just so he could taste it. He may have accidentally eaten a bit though!
I guess the thing in that he;ll get there eventually. TBH I'm not convinced that he's ready for this yet.
