Green nappies

Humour me here.

DD is 23 weeks and exclusively breastfed. I've been keeping an eye out for that mystic confluence of 'signs' that indicate she might be ready for solids. Thus far, she's feeding less rather than more and isn't waking up more frequently in the night, although she is waking for longer with an antisocial desire to chat loudly to herself at 4am.

However, I notice the last few days that her nappy contents have been green and mucusy. This has happened a couple of times before, for the odd bowel movement, but not consistently over a couple of days. Nor has the mucusy stuff been quite so evident.

I know about the foremilk / hindmilk thing on Kellymom, but I'm just wondering if anyone has come across anything like this as the gut of an exclusively breastfed baby matures? Just pondering...

She is well in all other ways.

May have answered my own question.

Found this:

"...Another cause of malabsorption in the intestines can be teething. The profuse saliva of a teething baby can cause irritation in the intestines interfering with proper absorption. When babies teethe, we can see lots of drooling. Large quantities of saliva is swallowed which can irritate the intestines causing runny, acidic stools. This can also cause a rash in the diaper area..."

And while she doesn't have any teeth, she is definitely dribbling more.
