Can you change later to BLW

I was advised to wean early by my sons paediatrician at 22 weeks due to reflux issues. I was disappointed as I had wanted to give BLW a try but he wasnt ready for it. He's taken well to puréed food opens his mouth when he's hungry, turns his head to side when he's had enough.

My question is can we still swap to BLW when he's readier or is it just too late or would I just be silly to change something that's working?

Also we have to wean milk, egg, soya and wheat free due to protein intolerances and am worried about how this would work with BLW when they are just meant to eat what the rest of the family are eating?

you dont need to swap - you could just add in finger foods and phase out purees gradually

You can wean him on whatever food you want, if you just want to give him finger foods that's fine, no need to give it a special name.

If he has intolerences then he will probably never be eating exactly the same as the rest of the family, so make one meal but substitute the part he can't eat for something that he can eat. So pasta for rice etc.

Well hopefully he'll outgrow his intolerances dc's 1&2 did by 2 years of age. I've just been reading so much about BLW and it's benefits as opposed to traditional weaning which I did with first 2, that I was keen to give it a go.

I'm in the same boat as you - LO is only 20 weeks and already spoon-feeding one meal a day to help with reflux. I'm giving him finger foods and various things to chew on while I hold them, so he's getting a good range of textures.

Essentially blw is baby feeding themselves so when baby gets to appropriate age then , if baby will let you, stop spoonfeeding and switch to self feeding finger foods. If you have stopped spoon-feeding then you are allowing baby to lead. Even with traditional weaning nhs guidelines are at 6 months you should already be trying to move away from purees as quick as possible
