Pescatarian. What finger foods can we give 7month old

DP is pescatarian (well, he eats tuna).

We've agreed to raise our baby pescatarian. I'm not looking for opinions on that. Grin

What finger foods can we give her (other than fruit and veg)?

I've been giving her some mashed food but she seems to have gone off most of it preferring finger foods.

Sometimes I give her mashed stuff in a sandwich.

Any suggestions?

TIA.

I think it's the spoon feeding she has gone off.

pasta, bits of cheese, potato wedges, lentil wedges, flapjacks, toast, bagels, omlette, savoury muffins

most food can be picked up and eaten if it's given in the right way

Will she pick up mashed food with her hands? Dd does so worth a shot?

ceeveebee · 04/09/2012 21:57

My DTs like sardines on toast, tuna sandwiches, cheese on toast, houmous on pitta or ricecake.

Thanks :)

How does one go about Lentil wedges?

Fish fingers are a massive hit with my two. I buy the Jamie OLIVER pollack ones usually.

Am going to attempt fish cakes (with tuna) tomorrow. I hold out less hope for their viability.

I keep trying houmous and pitta but not really getting anywhere with it. Eggy bread a massive hit though.

Sorry, I seem to be channelling Trevor Nelson there, heavy hit after heavy hit.

Here's a link to the recipe for lentil wedges
www.babyledweaning.com/recipes/lunchdinner/alisons-lentil-and-cheese-wedges/

I do use garlic in them and they are very moreish, DH gets them in his lunch box too!

Polenta fingers - you can add veg or cheese etc to them too. Boiled salad/new potatoes are also easy to grab and eat.
Paneer sticks are a good no-salt cheese. And my DS loves tofu too.

that's my website linked to there, i PROMISE i'm going to sort out the recipes soon... nightmare to index.

regarding the fish thing... one of my children's favourite and absolutely quickest meals is 'pink fish' ie salmon, and they've had it since weaning. i literally just buy those frozen pieces from marks, stick it in a bowl with some lemon, pop a plate on top and microwave. it's not unknown for me to throw some frozen peas in the same bowl at the same time... but your baby won't have the fine motor control for that yet.

when they're wee, you just divide the big flakes up and they can grab them.
in fact you have reminded me i haven't done this for a while, must go and buy some...

I have a steamer (they are not expensive) and would cut carrots and butternut squash into small batons and steam them. its really healthy and my son loved it. I also get the Organix Carrot sticks when im out they are so handy but only down side they are bright orange and get EVERYWHERE!

I know Aitch, I'm more of a lurker on the BLW site but go on all the time for recipes and to see what everyone is up too - I love it!! Grin
