Probably being a bit thick here but I have some left over roast chicken. How do i puree it for DD ?

Had some of the mum's own chicken but smelt more like cat food so want to try and do my own. They had added water, oil and lemon juice i think

mix it with some gravy and veg if you like and use a hand blender to puree it down (thats what I do) Grin I got the mums own chicken and the beef but i've not used it and i don't think i'm going to either

I am interested in this too as dd is about to start trying fish and meat. How do you make gravy for babies - am guessing they can't have regular granules as too miuch salt?

shellybelly · 12/03/2006 19:15

Can i just puree the chicken with water and freeze then add veg/gravy afterwards depending on what i am cooking ?

i bil the chicken in water with a pinch of low salt stock then hand blen down with ready made formula milk, just keep adding it till i get the consistency i want, then put in ice cube tray freeze and transfer frozen cubes to a freezer bag. i then add to whatever i am giving dd at the time so she is getting some protein in her solids too (dd is 7.5 months).

sometime i even add to a tin dinner which has a measly 8% meat content, to give it a boostGrin

Raggydoll · 14/03/2006 10:29

dd is 7mths and i don't really use gravy or stock. i puree the meat seperate and then I can make up hundreds of diff meat/veg combos just by defrosting a variety of diff coloured ice cubes - i even throw a couple of ice cubes into a spag bol or shepards pie so ds (2.4) gets some extra sneaky veg as well.

in response to original post I would also boil chicken or cook in foil with milk in the oven. Beef and pork I would buy minced and then blend after cooking but dd hasn't really tried this yet.

forevermore,
what a fantastic idea!!! Love it! Will def give that a go when DS is a bit older. He's 26 weeks and I've been weaning him for nearly 3 weeks. SO far he's had carrot, sweet potato and today I started him with parsnip but I'll do him a nice meat and veg mix in a couple of weeks.

I don't use gravy with dd (10mths) I don't think she needs it. For her first chicken I would make chicken stew, simmer chicken thighs and legs (the dark meat has more iron apparently) with veg; carrots, parsnip etc and a few herbs, bay leaf etc. then cool it, carefully take meat off bones and remove gristle, then add meat to veg, bit of the cooking water and whizz it up together. dd now shares out roast chicken which is cooked with garlic and herbs and I cut off chunks and lightly blend them with water, then add to veg. She loves it and its so easy.

hi raggydoll, i have a question for you based on your previous post. i have masses of frozen veg cubes and want to make protein (lamb, pork, beef, chicken etc) cubes separately so that i can mix and match. what ratio of meat cubes to veg cubes do you give your lo. my lo is 7 months old? thanks for the advice
