Baby who doesn't take much milk during the day

The little boy I nanny for is 7months old & refuses to take milk during the day. He is breast fed on waking & before bed at the moment but that is all he has. His Mum is worried about the intake of milk etc. is it alright to give him real dairy ice cream??

Are you being serious? No wonder women don't go back to work when there are nannies like you around.

I've been told by lots of people to give them ice cream as well as other dairy products

Babies should not have cows milk until 1 year. Do you mean the baby will not take a bottle?

Dont give ice cream. A low sugar natural yogurt with fruit puree would be much better!!! Milk in mashpotato would be fine but do check on the weaning stage with the mother. If he's only been at it a month and is baby led style then he will require something different maybe fingers of cheese on toast kinda thing. Don't go giving a taste for ice cream this early.

My son was exactly the same. His nursery just gave him plain Greek yoghurt or a baby yoghurt sweetened with fruit juice when other babies has bottles. (He was 9mo, by the way).

I breastfed morning, evening and all night.

I would steer clear of ice cream as yogurt has more nutrition and ice cream is very very sugary. I'd be fine with my bottle refusing baby having no-sugar yogurts as this seemed the best alternative but not at all happy with ice cream.

Oh and just to add, I'd only be fine with yogurt over 6 months old. And of course it does depend on individual weaning choices. My DS was happy using a spoon and finger food so we just did whatever, but not everyone is the same.

You could maybe buy some baby ice lolly moulds and make ice lollies with formula or expressed milk, I did this for teething but DD loves them in the hot weather. It isn't huge volumes going in, mind you, but it might remind him he wants some milk.

The first month of weaning, so the same age, DD didn't take much milk in the day but would wake up hungry at night (which she hadn't done since about 14 weeks). After about 6 weeks she is now taking more milk in the day and sleeping through again - I think it just took a wee while to adapt to the new sensation of feeling full with different foods, if he isn't dramatically losing weight I doubt there is a problem.

Umm, my post wasn't very constructive was it! I blame sleep deprivation!! My dd is 6 and a half months and doesn't have any milk from waking until 3pm, she has yoghurt and fruit at 11 ish but she doesn't take much. She sleeps well from 12.30 until 2.30 so I don't think she can be that hungry!
