My baby is 3 months at the moment but I go back to work when he will be 9 months. I am keen on breastfeeding - how many times do you breastfeed when babies are 9 months? at the moment mine is every 2 hours and I think it is very unlikely he will do bigger stretch...do I need to do anything so that my starting of work will be not disruptive for the baby in terms of b/f? really appreciate advice

At 9mo, DD doesn't have milk anymore at day time. I fed morning, bed and about twice through the night. But DD has the insanely earlier bedtime of 6pm, so one of the night feeds is 10-11ish.

Make sure you introduce a cup with weaning. Every meal without fail. I use the tommee tippee free flow first cup. Hopefully by 9mo he will be well established on solids. He might also be willing to drink formula in a cup.

The bf mummies at the nursery my dd goes to express and send in frozen breastmilk. I have no idea how much, but it is given to the babies in either a bottle or a beaker x

MamaBear I'm not so dedicated to the pump. DD hates other people feeding her. She can drink from a bottle, but only when she's holding it herself, drinking it like a sippy cup. It was the NUK latex brown teat ones, fyi. But by 9mo, she's already refused milk during the day and moved onto mid morning and mid afternoon snacks.

Oh but she'll drink milk from a beaker at that age. I think it's about feeling grown up like a big girl.

My DD fed every 2 hours in the day until she was well established on solids, around 7 months, when milk feeds dropped to a mid-morning and mid-afternoon (plus all the evening/night/morning which are out of work hours). By 9 months I think she just had one daytime feed left, and that was gone a few weeks later. She's now 14mo and still feeds evening and early morning, but hasn't had daytime feeds for almost 4 months.

Solids and age make a huge difference, so don't worry about what your baby is doing at the moment, as it'll be completely different by the time you go back. Plus your milk supply will be a lot more robust then too, so you don't need to worry about a longer stretch for you.

What I found didn't change is how often DD eats. She's still a 2-3 hours baby. I've simply swap bf with solids. She's 16mo now.

At 9 mOnths, I wouldn't worry about it - she'll probably drink from a sippy cup by then and you could either express or use formula in the day. As long as you feed several times in 24 hours when you are with her, your supply should be fine.

When my DTs started nursery at 12 months they wouldn't use a sippy cup at home, they just breastfed. When they started at nursery, they didn't drink much in the day, just played with the cup and guzzled milk from me all night, but after a couple of weeks they got the hang of the cup at nursery. Took a few more months before they'd use the cup at home tho, so please don't stress yourself in your final few weeks.trying to get your DD to use a cup - she'll get the hang of it once she sees the other babies using one :)

That is true, DD still eats every couple of hours (think she'd graze all day if I let her) but the solids replace the breastfeeds.

Also, I couldn't get her to drink from a cup for ages, even though I introduced it at 6mo when I started weaning. She quickly learnt at nursery though once it was the only option. So try a cup, but don't despair if your DD doesn't catch on straight away :)
