dd is nearly 6mo, has been eating purees from a spoon no problem for about weeks now (on the recommendation of the HV) as long as she has a spoon to play with too. We've also given her sticks of steamed carrot, steamed runner beans, steamed sticks of potato, broccoli, sugarsnap peas, baby corn, sticks of cheese (hv also suggested this) which she eats no problem (she has 2 teeth so can chew to some degree.
Over the last 2 days however, she is refusing point blank to eat anything from a spoon, but will happily eat anything we give her to feed herself.
Any ideas how to encourage her to have a spoon? or do we just give it up as a bad job?!

You can preload the spoon and give it to her, or just leave the spoon on the tray and let her eat yoghurt with her hands if she wants. Its all fine.

if you're against letting her just self-feed have you tried giving her a spoon for herself? My DD is self-feeding, she won't let anything in her mouth unless she can put it in herself!

My DS3 is STILL a spoon refuser at 18mo, unless HE can put the spoon in his mouth himself. I got coverall bibs and a splat mat. And let him get on with it. I ended up BLW him and being unable to physically feed him because of his spoon refusal.

Only one of mine like this, the older 3 DC's had no issues with it. Confused

Have you looked at www.babyledweaning.com

Mine was a spoon refuser, and I wouldn't recommend pre-loaded spoons unless you really really fancy wiping food off walls. Mine at 6mo catapulted yoghurt. And if she aimed for her mouth, she tipped it upside down on the way in, so more ended up on her bib. It's only after 1 yo that she uses a preloaded spoon properly.

we've gone for a bit of both... we are trying blw too, with the steamed veg and whatnot but she took food off a spoon fine to start with! maybe we'll just stick with letting her feed herself!!

My DC2 was a total spoon refuser too so we just went with BLW, she was eating full roast dinners almost straight away. It was just so much easier than making all the purees when I had weaned DC1.

Another spoon refuser here. DS hardly ate a thing for a week and had breastfed poos again! Took ages to realise it was the spoon he objected to rather than the food as I'd never heard of spoon refusal. We now let him feed himself 100% and wouldn't change it. So I guess you'd call us accidental baby led weaning converts!

I find yoghurt a pain tbh. Goes everywhere. We have more luck with rice pudding (easy to make, high in dairy, easy for them to suck off hands and sticks to a pre-loaded spoon well!)

My dd was and is the same. I load the spoon and give it to her. Much easier that way!
