... I started weaning my 22 week old DS. Made him a carrot and potato puree, set up the camera, sat him on DP's lap and recorded my poor LO first attempts at eating solids. First came surprise, then disgust and finally anger, I think that he managed to eat 2 spoonful. I know that it's a matter of perseverance and patience but, I'm really interested in hearing other people stories (and some hand holding too)

maybe try during the day instead so that if something disagrees with him it doesnt affect night-time and his sleep. My ds never grew to love carrot puree btw! Sweet potato, butternut squash, mushed up banana (thinned down with a little milk), pear puree all went down well to start with. I mixed stronger flavours with baby rice to tone them down a bit

Sweet potato purée and a vastly similar range of emotions!! She gradually started accepting a few mouthfuls at lunchtime but it was very slow going at first. We got there in the end and at 8mo she's quite the greedy guts! We stayed with veggie puréed and fruit puréed with porridge for breakfast. Just make sure you get shares in baby wipes!!

In the weaning leaflet the HV gave me, it says baby will only take 1-2 spoonfuls for the first wee while.

My DD had banana at her first meal, she chased it round the tray and then put her head down and sucked it up into her mouth, swallowed 2 thumbnail size chunks. She was 6 months though so we were safe to let her self-feed by then, she won't let us put anything into her mouth that she can't guide there herself. Perhaps he isn't ready? He's still very young, nhs guidelines recommend waiting till 6 months so their gut has matured enough to handle proper food. I'd wait a while and try again, save you creating a battle of wills at mealtime.

Maybe add a bit of LOs milk to whatever you give them, wil make the transition easier, I started DD on porridge, then after a few days started adding fruit purée to it.

A little update...
DS ate nearly all his puree today Grin
I guess that giving it at lunchtime must have made all the difference.
