Should I reduce his solids intake?

I somehow managed to post this under the title 'unknown' so thought I'd post again in case it means I get more advice!

Didn't know whether to post this in the feeding forum or here. Anyway...

Ds is 28 wks and after extolling the virtues of BLW to everyone I basically chickened out so he is mainly on purées.

So he's on 3 meals and our day today, which is fairly typical (apart from the fact he slept more than usual)went like this:

6:30 - Woke up
8:30 - 30 min nap
9:30 - breakfast- cereal with approx 3oz breastmilk + half a leftover fruit pot
10:45 - fell asleep in buggy on walk for 1 hour
12.15 - lunch out- tommee tippee cylindrical pot of homemade purée with about 1oz breastmilk mixed in- ate about half, 2 of mummy's chips and a 55g 'Plum' fromage frais
1.30 - fell asleep in buggy in way home-about 45 mins
4.30 - another 30 min nap
5.15 - tea- 2/3 avocado mixed with 50ml breastmilk
7pm - bedtime

So I haven't included any milk feeds because basically he has hardly had anything all day long. He had 3oz expressed milk in a bottle before his lunch and maybe a further 2oz expressed milk from his sippy cup throughout the whole day

He was ebf to just before 6 months when we started introducing solids but we had many issues along the way. I have offered him bf's all day long but he gets really quite cross about it and just will not feed. To be honest I'm not surprised by this daytime nursing strike and tbh I wouldn't really mind if he just took some fluids in a bottle or sippy cup or whatever, but even though I kept offering he just wasn't interested.

We have definitely been progressing towards this for quite a while now, with him having less and less daytime feeds but this is the first day he basically hasn't had anything all day.

Interestingly he still feeds at least twice at night and I just about managed to coax him into having a good bedtime feed once he was sleepy (I have tried this tactic with naps but it hadn't worked)

Anyway, sorry for the epic post...basically what it comes down to is i'm just worried about his fluid intake and wondering, is he having too much food too soon?

I would personally offer a bottle before food at this age. So give a bottle then offer food half an hour later.

Liquids are very important especially at this age.

I have tried Sad

Honestly, I've been offering him milk all day long in different guises- bf, bottle, sippy cup, but he just was having none of it.
That's why I was wondering if I should reduce his solids to try and make him more hungry for milk? Sounds a bit strange really but i just don't know what to do!

I do think his first teeth might be on their way as I can see them at the front of his gums and he has been. Very grumpy today. Could this make him not want to drink?

What about if u gave him
Milk when he first gets up? Or bring breakfast forward to seven and give milk before his morning nap ? Would he take a beaker of milk with a meal?

At this age if not drinking much you can easily drop a meal

So maybe drop breakfast and just give a large milk feed then see if he will take more before lunch

So milk at 8am
Milk at 12 ish
Then offer some food at 12.30 if still hungry. Will probably just eat some and not savoury and sweet as offered before

It's surprising how a few weeks make a huge difference at this age, so I'm a few weeks time he will be bigger and mate ready to have some milk in the am followed by a little breakfast.

I think around 20oz a day is the recommended liquid intake at this age

As rough idea youngest here is 14 months and has 6oz am, 3oz after lunch and 6oz pm ( plus around 8oz water a day and is fully weaned on solids)

How's his poo? If he weren't getting enough liquids he would be quite constipated I would have thought, so if his pops are still okay he is just drinking to his thirst and I wouldn't worry :)

Remember that puree has a lot of liquid in, as does most soft fruit/veg and cereal so he will be getting quite a bit from that.
