Weaning spoons, mark 2

Boots weaning spoons have "stage 1" on them.

Isn't that more sensible than "suitable from 3m"?

Guess no-one wants to comment (just in case) Grin .

hunkermunker · 02/03/2006 16:37

Either that or everyone agrees with me re Superdrug's lunacy.

My work here is done Grin

What was that about Superdrug? My weaning spoons are from Mothercare.

hunkermunker · 02/03/2006 16:41

Superdrug's packaging states their spoons are suitable from 3 months.

I think this is shit because weaning shouldn't start at the very earliest until 17 weeks - and even then IMO that's way too early.

What will parents see "stage 1" as meaning though?

hunkermunker · 02/03/2006 16:43

Well, on the back it does say "4-6 months" but I figure it's a step in the right direction to see 6 months mentioned on weaning product packaging!

Aaah - I see now Smile.

I agree that from 3 months is naughty ShockGrin

WigWamBam · 02/03/2006 16:50

It's a bit of a cop-out though, don't you think? It's still giving the impression that the "correct" weaning age is 4 months.

Although I agree it's not as bad as suggesting that they're OK from 3 months ... not quite Wink

"I think this is shit because weaning shouldn't start at the very earliest until 17 weeks - and even then IMO that's way too early."

HM I presume you waited until your DS1 was showing the 'signs' that he was ready for weaning. If so, what will you do if DS2 shows signs early that he's ready??

hunkermunker · 02/03/2006 16:55

What signs, QoQ?

Pincer grasp? Sitting unaided? If he can do those at 11 weeks, I'll show him where the fishfingers are and let him get on with it at 17 Grin

OH no here we go again. Right off to cook for the kids, both "legally" old enough for solids. (and she quickly ducks out).

PiccadillyCircus · 02/03/2006 16:56

Keep it clean everyone Grin.

Maybe Superdrug are suggesting that 3 month olds might like to practice slobbering on weaning spoons for a bit?

Blush
nailpolish · 02/03/2006 16:57

well i think its ok to say suitable from 3 mths because when it came to giving dd their jags, there was no way i was using the spoon they provide in the calpol box, far too sharp for little gobs. i used a weaning spoon.

hunkermunker · 02/03/2006 16:59

But if it had said suitable from 6 months would you have not thought it was suitable for giving medicine?

OP posts:
nailpolish · 02/03/2006 17:00

omg hunker i would most certainly not have used it, how dare you suggest such a thing Wink

wears the gums down and gets that buggeration teething time over and done with

hunkermunker · 02/03/2006 17:05

Ooh, wish I'd thought of that.

QoQ, still want to know what signs you mean.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 02/03/2006 17:06

I noticed today that Heinz Rusks now state from 4-6 months rather than just 4 months.... will admit to buying some today, but not for 19 week old dd - for ME!

CorrieDale · 02/03/2006 17:21

In our weaning talk in post-natal (organised by HVs) we were told to give the babies spoons to play with when they could grasp, so that they didn't just spit them out when we came to trying to feed them with them. At the time, I didn't know about the tongue thrust reflex. Guess the HVs didn't either.
