Do they really need snacks at 11 months?

DS is eleven months next week and we do three servings of solids a day. I've always let him direct meals (he spoon-fed himself from 6-8 months and now I just put food on his high chair while he crams it in :D). This is what he ate today:

Half an avocado, watermelon and gluten-free cereal for breakfast
Brown rice pasta, stir-fried chicken and spinach for lunch
Gnocchi with vegan pesto, pinto beans and kale

He eats a good amount at each sittingquite often the lotand seems satiated afterwards (we BF in between). He is currently allergic to dairy.

So do I need to bother with snacks?

I did give snacks at that age but it was to replace daytime feeds that ds had dropped e.g. he had a snack at 10.30am to replace the 11am milk feed and to see him through to lunchtime. He only had milk in the morning and at bedtime by that age so had snacks and a drink of water between meals.

It'd be a very rare child that can last all the hours between the meals without a snack. You are already given a snack in the form of a bf. Same with Seona I actively replaced bf with snacks around 11mo. DD was already in nursery FT at that age, and wasn't having any bottles during the day since 10mo. It's just easier if I also drop the bf during the day to stop the engorgement on Mondays. She was given a beaker of milk mid morning, and some fruit, yoghurt or cheese mid afternoon.

Since your LO is dairy intolerant, would it be easy to replace the calcium he lost if you aren't giving bf during the day? Can he drink soy milk? (I'm not sure if soy milk are full fat). It's your choice when you want to start replacing the day feeds, but I think many mums do because it starts to get strange looks when you bf toddlers in public!
