Breakfast Cereals? Confused about Fibre/Salt etc

Hi,

I have been giving my six month old Cow and Gate creamy porridge for the last two weeks and apart from being expensive, i'm sure it's probably the same as adult porridge minus the Gluten obviously.

I'm confused as to whether I can now give her normal adult porridge such as Weetabix or Ready Brek as I read about issues with a high fibre content and am concerned about salt/sugar etc.

I'm tying myself up in knots over this and it's stupid really - what do you give your LO for breakfast?

Thanks :)

There is no salt in ready brek. Its just oats and added vits. I am confused why so many people think it is salt filled. My friend told me should wouldn't give it to her dd as its really salty, making me feel crap as its about the only thing ds will eat.

You can stick various fruits in, even chopped apple disintegrates in the microwave.

cool, thanks - that's great to know :)

I do my DD's mixed with purreed fruit and raisins. My 5 year old still asks for this once a week at least! Fruit, carbs, protein done in one bowl :)

Ready Brek is the business. No salt and no sugar and cheap as chips as it goes such a long way.

DD has it with cow's milk as porridge or mixed with fruit and Greek yoghurt. The later is her favourite!

Loads of people have tried to tell me it has sugar and salt in it but it really doesn't! the same people who use weetabix which does have quite a lot of salt in it

If you make it with full fat milk then why not just give your baby proper porridge? Make it with oats the same as for an adult and don't add anything else. The full fat milk makes it taste delicious and because its a thicker consistency then baby can pick clumps up in their hands and have a go at feeding themselves! Messy but healthy :) (Also loads cheaper!)

Thanks again - bought some original Ready Brek today and whole milk - I will try the porridge oats when I slowly move to a lumpier consistency. BLW sounds great but not my thing - too frightened about choking etc x
