What does your toddler like to eat?

We did blw with DD but something went wrong somewhere and she is fussy.

She enjoys all sort of bread products, cheese, loves garlic bread, favourite meal is macaroni cheese, loves those stuffed fresh pasta parcels you get (kind of like ravioli but with different fillings).
But she won't eat fish, potato )except chips), meat (except meaty fillings in aforementioned pasta, and slices of salami !!)

I was hoping for some inspiration from things other people's toddler DCs like to eat. I'm not concerned about her health, she seems to eat plenty, is following her centile line and definitely has more than enough energy. I just feel her diet is a bit repetitive.

Thanks

DS is relatively fussy. We had a breakthrough the other week, as he's decided that red's his favourite colour. Suddenly he's eating things like tomatos and sauce on his pasta (which he wouldn't touch before) which is great! And he'll try new red stuff. Might be worth a try? Start by talking about colours and then see if you can relate foods to them.

We also make food shapes for DS to encourage him to eat. So he eats "stegosauruses". The dinosaur's body is mashed potato, the spikes on its back are chucks of cheese, the legs, head and tail are made from cut up sausages and the grass is peas. Works a treat!

Also, a friend of mine visited recently. DS had hardly touched his meal, and she made a real effort with him to get him to eat it, smiling and being very fun, but with the undertone that she did expect him to eat it. I was really surprised, it worked! We usually either get into a battle if DS doesn't eat, or I just let him not eat. But perhaps I need to try a bit harder to be firm in a fun way?

BTW I don't think you went wrong anywhere! We did BLW with DS and he used to eat everything. MIL always used to say "when he hits 2, he'll change" as their taste buds change change apparently. Annoyingly she was right! When he hit 2 he became fussy! (He's 3.5 now).

They are supposed to go fussy so nothing went wrong! It's a developmental thing. It sounds like yours are actually eating great tbh. You seem to have all th food groups covered really. It has only gone wrong if yours can't chew yet!

Mine loves pasta, omelettes, bananas, strawberries, yoghurt and cheese. Nothing else gets eaten reliably. But she surprises me somethings what she will put in her mouth. Yesterday she ate an asparagus and pickled grated carrots! I usually only offer 1 of each of these things she isn't fond off, so she can get used to seeing or playing with them (ie throw on floor). And she gets her pasta or egg at least once a day so I know she has something to eat.

Don't give up, keep offering and maybe he will suddenly decide, say red food is good.

I also did BLW but still have quite fussy 18 month DD. I don't think I did anything wrong but BLW just doesn't guarantee you an unfussy child.

She does eat risotto (with various vegetable toppings) and rice pudding. She won't eat pasta but does eat fish and chicken (so long as its roasted) and minced beef. She likes lentil and cheese bakes. She also likes pulses (chickpeas, haricot beans especially) - sometimes I just give her pulses and vegetables. She also likes cous cous (with butter). Eats lots of bread.

She likes peas, carrots and sweetcorn. And pineapple and blueberries.

That's pretty much it! I'd like it to be more varied but overall she's probably eating qite healthily

Thank you for your reassuring words.
I just had this notion that she would be offered our meals and would eat the same as us. Instead she seems to live on macaroni cheese.

I do have the blw cookbook so might have a look in that and see if there are any ideas. But I don't want to put effort into making something just for her to reject it.

We had spaghetti bolognase for tea tonight and she wouldn't even look at it. Ah well, tomorrow is another day!

Thinking of the fish and potato thing, dd (15mo) likes tuna fishcakes - mashed potato, sweetcorn and tuna mixed with a bit of lemon juice and shallow fried in the oil from the tin (tastes best with tuna in sunflower oil). We eat them too, have done since well before she was born.

Dd also likes fish pie with cheesy sauce, sausage casserole (the sausage goes really nice and soft), pasta with small bits of chicken and veg with pesto... all things that we can eat too.

we get the feeling that 2.9 year old DS1 actually likes quite a lot of things, he just chooses not to eat them now.

we did mush and finger foods with him and he used to eat anything at all. somewhere between 18mo and 2 he became fussy.

if he can be persuaded to taste something, he'll often eat quite a bit of it, but he tells us he doesn't like it before trying any...

he will often try stuff if a character in a book or on tv eats it and took up eating raw carrot after he saw pandas doing it.

i often worry that he'd live on plain pasta, cereal and cheese given half a chance, but he has started to improve again.

I'm hoping when DS2 starts to eat food it will encourage him. he always wants to play with the baby's toys so he might want what he's eating too. :)

he will sometimes eat lasagne, lentil curry and little meatballs.
