I posted last week that blw was going well and now it's not!! I'm so feed up and confused!! I just don't know what to do!!

Everytime I put something infront of her she just stares at it now. Before she would lunge at it and want more and more of it!! Made lovely tuna croquettes for lunch and she just wasn't interested!! Then decided to give her a loaded spoon of a purée pouch and one taste and she was off. Didn't want to feed herself and let me feed her till it was all gone!! What does that tell me!! I just don't know whether I'm coming or going!! Ahhh this is so hard.

Some words of wisdom please xx

They really really go through phases. If she wants to be spoon fed, and you don't mind, then do it. Remember however you wean, make sure it's happy for both you and your baby.

One thing of caution though. I wouldn't feed her the puree pouch. If you look on here, you'll find a lot of people have trouble moving their LOs off the pouch. They are super super smooth. Unlike anything you can create yourself. An occasional pouch is ofc ok, but don't make it so it's a regular event. (I'm assuming you are the type that wants to cook your LO home made food).

Remember weaning is about introducing them to textures and tastes of real food. If the food you want her to get used to your food, then the pouches won't do the job. You can just mush with a fork (or blitz with hand blender if you want it smoother). You can also make more stew/spag bol type of food for easier spoon feeding. Couscous is good too. Also traditional weaning is spoon feeding and finger food. While you give her purees, don't forget to also give simple finger food so they get to practice. (Simple things like fruit or toast will do, no need to cook tuna croquette when they aren't interested).

Most of all, relax.

Oh and refried beans too. DD loves that. I'm sure you can come up with many mushy type of home made food.

Agree with one. It's not about shovelling food into them, it's more about exploring taste and texture at this age. Just keep doing what you were doing, giving her the food and then eating or chatting. When you are ready, clear away and if she's eaten great, if not it's no big deal. Milk will be enough to sustain her and she will probably change again in a couple of days Smile.

I don't have jars at home so there aren't any choices Hmm. But just to let you know they'll still go through this until beyond toddlerhood. Supposedly there's a window around 8-12mo where they are very adventurous towards new tastes. After that they can become very adverse to anything new. So really try not to worry about things. If all she wants is porridge and yoghurt, that's at least carbs, protein, and dairy sorted, isn't it? They'll usually eat some fruit too as it's quite sweet. If you look at it this way, they'll do have a more balanced diet then you might think.

FWIW, DD is 14mo and has just gone off food for the last two days. She's a great eater and will sometimes have seconds and thirds. But today, she didn't have any lunch, and for tea she only had two bites of the omelette. (Her favourite is pasta and omelettes). I think she's having stomach flu because DH have it as well. But since she's a baby, she can't communicate what's wrong. You just can never guess why they've lost appetite, even if they have been very successful with weaning.

Dd is allergic to cows milk so I'm limited in what to give her! This morning I gave her some toast with mashed banana on it and she just didn't do much with it. I then offered her a bit of orange and she gave it a go!! Do you think I should just stick to fruit and veg for the mo?

How about just give her whatever you are eating, or anything that's easy for you to make. Like toast with peanut or cashew butter, then a bit of fruit. This is for older toddlers

But there are still lots of relevent information. It's best if they get used to the toast, or the roast beef you are eating, even if it's just touching it. Don't worry if they aren't interested today.
