How many yoghurts do you give in a day?

None. DD2 (16m) is a bit iffy with breakfast but is usually happy to have a banana mixed with some Greek yogurt. She doesn't have it every day and apart from that she doesn't have any. For dessert or snacks she has fruit or fuit puree or bread-stick type things.

DC1 had three Plum baby yoghurts a day or two pots Yeo Valley fromage frais up until about 20 months. DC2 (15m) has at least one Sainsburys yoghurt pouch a day and usually also a Sainsburys Kids fromage frais. Greek yoghurt occasionally. Yoghurts most day but they go through phases when they go right off it and have fruit and fruit smoothies instead.

One. DD has never had more than 1 a day, and that's usually Greek yoghurt that I've bunged some fruit in.

thisisyesterday · 18/06/2012 14:57

mine have never had more than one a day, and they don't have them every day.

SecrectFarleysNibbler · 18/06/2012 15:56

Mmmmmm ( thoughtful face ) wondered if you could 'overdose' on them really.

i wouldn't have thought so! :)

personally i don't like mine to have too much sugar, so they get plain yoghurt with fruit added, or the ones you can buy with no added sugar. I think if they were eating a lot of yoghurts the sugar would really add up. aside from that I think they're a pretty healthy food choice

but i realise not everyone is as anal over sugar as me lol.

Flisspaps · 18/06/2012 17:06

Not really, but if yoghurt is making up the bulk of the diet then that means that other things are going to be excluded, which isn't great.

I'm not anal about sugar and am happy for DD to have cake/biscuits, but aren't happy for her to have stuff like Petit Filous, because of the sugar - but I think that's because it's sugar pretending to be something healthy. At least in cake or biscuit, you know it's sugary crap food.

Foshizzle · 18/06/2012 17:21

Think it also depends on the yoghurts. Some have lots of sugar added (Petits Filou, Mueller Little Stars - worst offenders).

Some people may be substituting yoghurts for lots of dried fruit, for example. I know which I'd prefer. Agree though Greek yoghurt is the best option really.

SecrectFarleysNibbler · 18/06/2012 18:01

I buy the asda ones -just as bad??

Not sure. If sugar is the second thing listed on the ingredients then it's not likely to be good. Someone with a better grasp of comparisons than I may be able to tell you, but tbh I guess the gist of what everyone is saying is that I moderation it's fine. And it's a good way of getting their dairy quota up if nothing else.

thisisyesterday · 18/06/2012 19:12

their fromage frais have a LOT of sugar. sugar extract from concentrated fruit, the fruit itself (which will contain a fair amount) and then extra sugar

OneLittleBabyTerror · 18/06/2012 21:48

If it tastes sweet it has lots of sugar. But personally I can't stand sour plain yoghurt.

OneLittleBabyTerror · 18/06/2012 21:50

As for DD, she eats adult ones like yeo valley and onken full fat. Basically the same ones DH and I eat. I just scoop a few spoonfuls out for her. She have it at most once a day, and not every day either.
