DS, 9 months is BF and has generally taken to solids well. However he seems to have problems around once a week or so with his bowels- cue lots of moaning/groaning, the occasional cry and a small, rather solid looking poo! He generally is going daily or on alternate days but it's obvious when he's uncomfortable.
He generally has some veg with each meal, and fruit daily. I offer him water in a sippy cup with each meal, and just wondering how much water he should be taking daily?

I'm giving this a bump as I'd like to know too!

Yes, another bump...

I'm having trouble getting this right too

I hope there isn't an amount they are supposed to have as my ds (9 months) is RUBBISH at drinking water! I am lucky to get a few tiny sips down him.

He also gets a little constipated at times, but I have found that adding a bit of prune juice in to his morning ready brek sorts that out.

My DD starting suffering around the same time with solid poo! It should still be soft at this time and I initially put it down to solid food but we found she was in pain when going! She was having plenty of fruit and we did find it difficult to get water down her but i was still BF so didn't worry too much! The drinking will come when they are ready but did take my DD a while! We saw a paediatrician and were told she had a cows milk intolerance. Have a think about his diet. We did BLW but on reflection we introduced a lot of milk into her diet in one go especially with yoghurt etc, a firm favourite! Perhaps try reducing the amount of milk if you think it could be of any use, it's easier than you think but milk intolerance is very common at a young age and most grow out of it although paediatrician said some children not picked up until children are older! DD got eczema soon after which is another symptom so perhaps keep an eye out! Keep trying with the water it will get better and they know what they need so all will be good!
Hope things get better!

My DD suffered with constipation quite badly at 6.5 months, probably due to the start of weaning. I discovered that there is something called BRAT foods (google it), Banana, Rice, Apple, Toast. It's suggested that if your baby has dioreah that you give them BRAT foods to bind things up, so on that basis if you give them to them when they are constipated it would make it worse. I actually wondered if it made my DD constipated to start with so I cut out BRAT foods, I also tried giving her high fibre foods, prunes, apricots, strawberries, avocado, courgette, brocolli, spinach etc. In her case she did need some medicine which helped her get back to normal. Ever since then I always give her a low fibre food (apple or banana) but balance it out later in the day with a high fibre food (apricot).

Re the water, there doesn't seem to be any guidance surrounding this. When DD was constipated the pharmasist couldn't answer me but just said regular drinks of water. I have read in a few places that they shouldn't be having more than a couple of oz's but it doesn't say if that's at any one time or during the day. My DD has about an oz at each meal and combining this with the balance of fibre everything seems to be ok for now.

Keep water on hand all day - don't just offer it at meals. I don't think there's a set amount, but it's far easier to get it into them if they can get the cup themselves (especially if mobile!)
