Do I encourage her to feed herself more?

I am 90% sure I know where I stand on this, but am interested to know what others think.

DD is 14.5 months. She eats pretty well though struggles with non-minced meat. At nursery she apparently feeds herself mostly, and my mum has reported similar. At home, she will usually take a filled spoon from me, but will rarely try to fill it herself, and often gets distracted to the point where she loses interest in the food so I end up spooning it in. She feeds herself finger food just fine.

My question is, shoul I be more strict on her and leave her to try to feed herself for a while, or shall I just keep on helping her out til the independent streak takes over naturally?

It's pretty good she can load a spoon at 14.5mo. My DD is the same age. She just stabs with her spoon and fork, while scooping with her other hand. Hmm

Given she self feeds at your mums and nursery, it doesn't sound like something you need to worry about. Unless ofc you are fed up with loading her spoon or feeding her.

Thanks! I've never seen this apocryphal self-feeding myself ;) I have no idea what's normal. I was pretty pleased when they told me Tbh. Feeding her doesn't really bother me, just wondering if I was being too indulgent And if she's start taking advantage of soft mum!
