I've been reading everyone's routines and i am really confused and worried cos i hardley ever see my health vivitor and she is useless !!!

My routine is

7.00am Bottle and porridge
11.30am - 12.00pm ish - Bottle and lunch
4.00pm - 4.30pm ish - Bottle and Dinner
8.00pm - Bottle

I noticed that lots of people give mid morning and afternoon bottles aswell or split the solids and milk seperately through the day.

I am really worried cos it looks like i'm not feeding him enough !!!! Anyone else have this routine or has anyone got any useful routines cos i am really stuck and don't know what to do for the best !!!

How old is your DS?

welshmum · 19/02/2006 16:00

My dsd is coming up to 9 months and he's on roughly the same amount as yours - supplemented by a bottle of diluted apple juice for 'constipation'

welshmum · 19/02/2006 16:01

Should be ds - he's not an hermaphrodite, although I have nothing against hermaphrodites.....

He's 6 months. I've also read that he should be taking a pint of milk a day whether it be in his food or drinking it. Is this true ? Anymore help on routines would be helpful !!!!!

Anna - I'm doing the same sort of routine as you. Yes you could split bottles up against food but I always thought that this doesn't give me time to do anything else as I'd either have a bottle in or feeding solid.

Yes - a pint of milk a day and includes what they eat too, so porridge made with formula and four x 5oz bottles is well over one pint each day.

I offer boiled water outside of the times you've given and nothing else unless on the very rare occasion they are obviously hungry.

what's best is really what you are happy and relaxed with. As long as your baby is happy, contented, enjoying his routine and putting on weight you should not worry.

make sure you get baby weighed once a month now - if you don't like your HV and avoiding weighing there - does your local HV's offer a service at Boots? In my area we can go into Boots on the first sat in each month, just for weighing.

Hi Anna,

I think your routine sounds fine. I give milk at separate times but agree with Lexiemum that it is very time consuming and I would much prefer my ds to have his milk at mealtimes like yours- however he doesn't want this. I'm sure you are feeding him enough - if he sleeps through the night and is putting on weight - you are doing well.

Thank you very much for your advise. Sometimes you know you are doing the right thing but just need someone to confirm it for you, especially when you read so many different views. It's nice to know some mums out there are doing the same as me aswell xxx

how much milk do you give with the meals...i am worried that my dd isn't having enough...also how much food is given for lunch and dinner?

would like to know if i am giveing too much food, cos dd won't take much milk!

lexiemum · 22/02/2006 04:15

just started weaning - but always make a full feed up - currently 8oz. DD2 will eat about 4-5teaspoons of slop, then have her bottle and will have anywhere between 4 and 8oz of it.

Milk is their main source of nutrient not the food at this stage. I've worked portion size out based on teaspoons - so will start at 4-5 but offereing lots of different things gradually over many weeks
