DD2 is nearly 6 months (in 9 days). For various reasons, we started weaning at 5 months. She was doing great, then last week came down with a cold and started to refuse all solids, so we stopped. She is now back to waking hourly at night so I've tried again with a small amount of fruit and she absolutely refuses to open her mouth, and when she does she just spits it all out.

I am not a BLW person, I did it when I was a nanny and hated it purely because the poor mite was constantly gagging. I will do it if that's what baby wants, but why was she doing so well and now showing absolutely no signs of readiness?

Any experiences? Any advice?

I didn't want to leave your message unanswered. Although, I don't really have any advice to give.

We are doing BLW and I am trying to keep in mind that 'solid food is just for fun until they are one'.

Waking at night is not necessarily a sign that baby is not getting enough food. And if they are hungry, breast milk and/or formula would have more calories in it than any solid food they are likely to eat at six months.

My DS is the same age, and has just started waking at night after having slept through since he was about three months old. (Although, I breast feed him in his sleep every two hours....) I think he is waking because he is teething. Maybe your baby is waking for the same reason?

Here is a link to a BLW blog that might help.

Good luck!

My DS went through phases like this, usually after a cold or teething. Keep offering (all the time)... She WILL take it again.

dd is 24 weeks and we're not weaning and she's waking too!

She's probably still feeling under the weather. Is she still drinking plenty of milk? If so, I don't think it would do her any harm to have just milk for a few days if that's all she wants. It may be that fruit is too sharp-tasting for her if she's not been well - see if she'll accept something really bland like baby rice?

Hi. I would keep offering regularly as mentioned above as well. I 'm doing purees too (dd2 is 6 months in 4 days). However at the end of meals I offer a carrot puff crisp, or mini rice cake. Dd2 loves them and manages these quite well. She also likes to hold her own spoon! And when she can she holds my spoon as she eats.

Your dc may just need a bit more time to recover from her cold. Dd2 also eats with dd1 and me, making her extra keen! She will eat solids again soon.
