I would add some sauce or butter/cheese - pasta by itself is not particularly tasty and as LO is over 6 months they can have pretty much anything!

Pootles2010 · 23/04/2012 13:10

Yes, agree just do them how you would do them for yourself.... even better just make double and have lunch together! Saves on pots. We used to have bolognese a lot... predictable but nice.

SecrectFarleysNibbler · 23/04/2012 13:11

Lol! Lol! Lol! Lol! Put a bit of cream cheese with tiny spot of pesto. Sucked all the sauce and spit out the pasta!

Now have pasta all over the floor!! Time to get a dog!!!

I need a dog too, DS is very messy Grin.

I'd ditch the Farley's rusks, they contain an awful lot of sugar. I'm trying to keep DS's diet pretty low in refined sugar, and was very surprised about how much sugar there is in rusks and most breakfast cereals.

Annnbel Karmel Popeye pasta - big hit when weaning BIG hit still at nearly 3 - Quick recipe, Buy frozen chopped spinach, blizt in MWave for 2 min, heat a bit of butter, add in the spinach and saute for a min, add a dollop of full fat philli, grate in cheese, parmesan, cheddar anything you have really, add cooked pasta and dash of milk if a bit thick. No need to measure anything just add the amounts which fit your tastes. I've only ever used strong cheese as I dislke mild and didn't see point of giving cheese to LO if you cant taste it!!

SecrectFarleysNibbler · 23/04/2012 14:59

Good recipe! Shocked about the farleys!!!!

BTW, if you are curious, here is the nutrional info for farley's rusk. It's 29% sugar.

I know what you mean by the sugar content. Since DD turned 1yo, I started looking at baby food off the shelf for some quick snacks. I'm shocked how much of it is completely laden with sugar. (I mean around 30% sugar). Organix does a savoury museli bar, tomato and veg iirc, and it's the only snack bar I've found that's not basically a sweet treat. I give this museli bar, rice cakes (of all flavours including sweet ones), and breadsticks as my go-to snacks. DD isn't given the rusks, sweet museli etc, but have a pudding with meals in the weekend. Basically when we have one.

OneLittleBabyTerror · 23/04/2012 15:54

Oh and I started, again, to give her yoghurt. These are pre-flavoured ones so they are pretty sweet. But I reckon it's not empty calories as it's got the goodness of dairy.

OneLittleBabyTerror · 23/04/2012 15:56

And here an article on sugar and breakfast cereals on NHS choices. They define any cereal with 12.5% or more sugar as too high in sugar. I found it helps me to choose cereals for all of us when doing the shop. There are actually quite a few cereals that pass this guideline, mainly the traditional ones. Like shredded wheat, weetabix, readybrek.

SecrectFarleysNibbler · 23/04/2012 17:55

It's a mine field! Thanks so much for your info - not considered this at all yet :)

RecursiveMoon · 23/04/2012 19:34

Yes, DS usually has Weetabix or ReadyBrek. We've just begin to give him Shreddies (well, the supermarket equivalent) once a week - they're 15% sugar Shock.

It's nice to hear that others feel the same way, people sometimes make me feel that we're being OTT. I just don't see the rush to give DS tons of chocolate / ice cream etc.

RecursiveMoon · 23/04/2012 19:38

I obsess about yoghurt too Blush. DS has plain Greek yoghurt, which is less tart than natural yoghurt, or Greek yoghurt mixed with one of those fruit only pots. Or Rachel's my first yogurts (IIRC) or Little Yeos. These are sweetened with fruit juice / concentrate so are still sweet, but they contain a lot less sugar per 100g than Petit filou etc. And they hopefully contain a few more good things too.
