Blw and milk

Dd is 28 weeks and doing quite well putting food in mouth and seeing it in nappy! However she isn't cutting down breast feeding and is still a keen feeder. She has 4/5 day feeds and 2 overnight. She is a big girl - 18lbs on my scales and I am a bit worried she is going to get huge. Will she cut milk or should I encourage her to feed less? Thanks.

The BLW book says they might not drop feeds till 8/9 months and to keep feeding on demand.

I wouldn't worry, keep feeding & she drop feeds when she is ready

Definitely keep feeding - she will cut it when she is ready and it will all work out in the end, try not to worry :)

I wouldn't worry either. 28 weeks is such early days. My DD was demand fed every 2-3 hours at 6mo. By 9mo she only has bf on wake up, at bed time (and through the night). If you want to encourage them to drop day feeds, wait till she can understand food and water can help with hunger and thirst. If she demands a feed, give her solids and water and see if she's happy with it. If they are ready, they will be happy with the alternative. There is no need to force it.

BTW I wouldn't worry about trying to replace bf with snacks until close to 1yo.

Definitely don't worry, keep up the milk until she decides to drop it herself, probably at about 9 months :) WRT the weight issue, please don't worry about that either, once she is on the move with crawling, cruising and walking, her weight gain will slow down as she will be using up a lot more energy :)
