What weaning kit did you find essential?

I have a Tripp Trapp. What else do I need?

I'm thinking doidy cup (but don't they just swipe them over and it goes everywhere?)

Weaning spoons? Melamine plates/bowls? Long armed bibs? Wipe clean table cover (I have a dog, so the floor is sorted).

Planning to mainly BLW, so don't need to blend etc.

Thanks!

Long sleeved bibs are brilliant. I also found a mop very useful!

Baby, food, stuff to clean up afterwards. Job as they say is a good un

CMOTDibbler · 20/04/2012 22:23

A long sleeved bib in fabric that doesn't stain was my only essential. Doidy cups are good, but just put a small amount of liquid in them.

PoohBearsHole · 20/04/2012 22:23

Actually the best things I got were plastic cups and plates/bowls in fun colours from ikea. Melamine breaks when thrown across the room Hmm

Doidy cup? Seriously I bought one and neither of my children could give two hoots about it, both learnt to drink quickly from a cup so no real problem.

And laugh at me, lots of flannels and some straws.

A decent sippy cup that doesn't spill, for milk when they are older and drinks on the move.

doggiesayswoof · 20/04/2012 22:23

big soft plasticky bibs (not the rigid ones) that you can wipe clean/antibac without having to put them in the washing machine every single meal.

wipe clean table is less faff than table cover ime.

cheap plastic bowls and plates from Ikea.

Personally I used covered cups with spouts until mine were about 3 Grin but I am slightly OCD about spilled liquid...

PoohBearsHole · 20/04/2012 22:24

oh and a pack of weaning spoons as they are softer but just make sure the spoons are small with small handles (not the ikea ones, for a teeny one they are too large)

Dottymcdot · 20/04/2012 22:24

I was taken in by the doing cup too.

Dottymcdot · 20/04/2012 22:24

Doidy

doggiesayswoof · 20/04/2012 22:25

Yes Pooh you have the same Ikea bowls as me - my kids still use theirs years later for choc buttons/chopped up fruit etc. And they are so so cheap.

ThePieSmuggler · 20/04/2012 22:29

We bought an oilcloth tablecloth so it's easy to wipe clean, we just leave it on all the time now. I second the long sleeved bib thing although we still have to strip dd down to her vest at mealtimes as she has a penchant for rubbing whatever it is she's eating all over her thighs (we're BLW so you might not have that issue if you're doing purees) Grin

Dottymcdot · 20/04/2012 22:33

Doidy

StarshitTerrorise · 20/04/2012 22:34

Blimey, what's a weaning kit?

I don't think we had any.

PoohBearsHole · 20/04/2012 22:55

those ikea bowls are useful for everything - choc buttons, fruit, raisins, bread sticks digging in the garden, teddy bears party, unruly guests best quid I spent I reckon! And still going strong 4 years later with number 2!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/04/2012 08:36

Cheap shower curtain or a dog for the mess on the floor, sippy or doidy cup and some long armed bibs. No need for spoons and bowls if you are planning blw.

learningtofly · 21/04/2012 08:40

A small hand held vacuum. Invaluable.

Heartbeep · 21/04/2012 08:57

A trip to ikea - plastic plates, bowls, cups & cutlery. A few 2 packs of their long sleeve bibs (they're a brilliant size, wash well, dry quickly & look ok red & blue). Also a 'mucky mat' for under the chair is good John Lewis sell one I think or you can get them on the net.
I also bought a £10 electric steamer from tesco for veggies it's great, I still use it now & DD is nearly 3!

BLW is fun, enjoy.

BakingBunty · 21/04/2012 15:52

I second the mucky mat (great name!) especially if BLW. We use an oilskin tablecloth underneath the highchair. I'm also a massive fan of pound shop Tupperware for freezing things!
