Can BLW work for a baby who doesn't seem to mouth anything apart from her own hands??

DD is coming up to 6 months so I'm starting to think about weaning.

DS (2 1/2) was BLW so I'm sure I should be more confident about things this time round. However, DD doesn't seem to be as "grabby" as her brother was and doesn't really mouth anything apart from her own hands. How does BLW work if the baby doesn't show any interest in putting anything in their mouth?

Sorry if this is a stupid question!

Bumping this as I am having the same concerns. DD (7 mo) doesn't put anything in her mouth at all apart from her own hands-she's never put a toy or a teether in there and though sometimes she'll bash at food if it's in front of her she rarely picks it up and never puts it in her mouth. If I spoon feed or finger feed her she'll happily nibble but she never puts the same foods in her mouth herself. I know she can pick things up as she plays with toys and has a good forefinger/thumb grip, but nothing ever goes towards her mouth.

She also never breast fed, despite weeks of trying and dozens of midwives and HVs trying to help too. She happily took a bottle though once we'd given up on breast/cup feeding. It has only just occurred to me that these could be related-in both instances it is as though she just doesn't realise that it's food, or what she's supposed to do with it. I'm worried because I've heard that learning to mouth things is important in learning to speak, in terms of 'finding the edges' of their own mouths etc.

Hope someone who knows can come and help us!

Little bump...

Bumping too as DC2 is similar.

Surely the answer is try it an see? Nothing is lost if they're not interested, or not coordinated enough but you still want them on solids but a bit of time. As long as they're getting their milk then it doesn't matter. Let them have a try. They will learn to eat at some point.

My dd is almost a year old and will eat anything as long as it's spoon fed to her. She won't even drink from a cup herself.
I've started putting things in her hands and holding them with her to guide them into her mouth. I think she is getting the idea slowly but it's going to be a long process!

Oh and as far as speech goes, my dd is extremely vocal says about 4 words quite clearly.
