Cutting bottles out while weaning.

Hi,
Im sure you'll all agree that weaning is a case of trial and error between you and your baby?
Id appreciate your thoughts on this matter:
I started weaning my 6 months at 4 months old with just rusks in the morning, then after a week rusk at night, both made using some of his 6oz bottle feed for that time.
At 5 and half month i started to introduce other foods slowly, mashed sweet potato, parsnip, baby jars mixed with banana and banana on their own. He loves banana, goes down a treat and he's been having 1 per day. I tend to mix it with a prune pouch.
Today he has been very sleepy but still alert, nothing that im overly concerned about. And his poo's have been a little like goats droppings. He is teething so im wondering if that has anything to do with it?
The bottle feeds -
7am - Ive cut the morning 1 as he is having rusks with a breakfast pouch
10 - 10:30am - 6oz
12 - 12:30pm - lunch (either sweet potato or parsnip and half a jar of baby pudding)
3pm - only if he wants it another bottle
5pm - banana mixed the other half of baby pudding
6 - 7 pm - 6oz bottle and bed
HE HAS WATER THROUGH OUT THE DAY

Some one has said im weaning to quickly but i thought every baby is different and its a case of what works best for you and the baby?

At the moment, the bulk of his food should be milk. This should be the case until he's about 12 months old.

From what I can find online, the minimum he should be having every day should be about a pint, which is around 20oz. If he's only getting about 12oz from the 2 bottles then that's almost half of what he should be getting.

Of course, every baby is different, but I wouldn't think that would be to the point of needing half the amount of milk that other 6 month olds need.

But its about 18oz really with the afternoon bottle - point taken that he doesnt always have it. Does everything else sound right tho?

Can't offer official advice but my 8 1/2 old is only on 6oz (of his own accord -he dropped other bottles himself) he seems fine!!
He has goats milk in his cereal in the morning.

Don't know about anything else as we did BLW - but as I say, the bulk of the calories should be from milk.

Even on the days your DS does have the 3rd bottle, he's STILL not getting the minimum amount of milk. You can get milk into them in their food though.

Usually when babies are teething their poo is runnier (probably due to the increased saliva). Banana tends to have a constipating effect though, so if his poo is harder than usual you could try having one every two or three days instead of daily.

Flisspap - Thats a good idea, i need to introduce other fruit anyway.
NoGoodAtHousework - just proves that every child is different and what works for 1 doesnt work for another!
Thanks for advice

Want to confirm what flisspap says about teething and poo. My 1yo DD has runnier poos when she's teething. And they are very frequent. It's different from diarrhea because it's not explosive, just more like pre-weaning baby poo. I think your LO sound constipated.

Also, you do need to give 500ml of formula (see NHS link). Otherwise you need to give vitamin D supplements. It's recommended for everyone under 5. But formula is already fortified so you don't need it until he's off formula, which is usually 1.

Don't know if other things sound right either because I did BLW too. So at 6mo, DD isn't only just having fruit and veg. She's had meat, fish, veg, bread, pasta etc already.

My dd is starting to cut down on milk volume too. She's never been a big eater. Once sttn she only took 4 bottles. Now she's 7 months she's on 3 meals a day and sometimes a little snack. It can be a struggle to get the 20oz in her. She just seems to prefer solids. Depending on who you speak to some say relax follow your baby's lead others say you MUST get at least 20oz in her. But if she fights the bottle how? You don't want to make them hate feeding. And adding the formula to cereal/food only really gets a couple of ounces. I have started vitamin drops to try and help with vitamin side of things. Up til this week I have managed to get her to take 20 oz through the day but in last couple of days she's been taking 5/6oz at 7 cereal with another 1 or 2 oz then at about 12 she'll take 2/3 oz lunch at about 1 veg yoghurt and some finger foods. 430 she'll again take 2/3 dinner is about 530 and that will be a meat or fish fish yoghurt and finger foods. Bedtime bottle about 8 and we're lucky if will take 4 oz. wondering if drop mid morning bottle will she maybe make up for it in afternoon bottle? Think my dd likes challenging me. (she also gets water through day).

with reference to bottles when i was still offering at 7, 11, 3, 7, and 10 he only drank very little. swapped to 7, 2 and 7 with one at 10 too, plus food at 8, 11.30, and 5, now has about 25 ounce's of milk plus 3 good meal's

I'd cut down on the banana. One a day sounds a lot - my ds is 2.6 years and one banana bungs him up. Perhaps cut down to a bit of a banana. The pellet poos mean he's constipated.
