7mo on holiday, what to offer with Ella purees to give more texture?

DS is about 7.5mo (I think Blush) and is having a bit of finger food, a bit of mushed sweet potato or squash, a bit of banana and yogurt, and a variety of Ella purees.

I am bringing the ella purees with me, plan to let him suck on whatever bits of meat they have has he won't eat he meat/fish Ellas, and breadsticks/toast etc.

Am struggling to introduce other textured carbs - he doesn't seem to like mashed potato, I have just offered him quite soft rice with chicken and veg and he obv still found it too much texture and just wouldn't eat it. Do I need to bring some kind of food mill to make his food smoother? I just don't want him to get addicted to Ella smooth food. He gets quite hungry between milk feeds so I do need to give him something - and he's already having 4-5 bottles per day offered to him, plus boob at night. He can get frustrated when we offere just BLW type things as I think he wants it to go down faster, I think - or do I needto give him milk when he seems too hungry for BLW meals??

Going to a child friendly hotel so assume there will be bits of chicken, chips, cucumber, fruit etc for him to have BLW style.

He has also just rejected home made sweet potato mash and he has had SP loads of times before in other things.

You could try mixing baby rice into the Ella's fruit puréed to thicken them up a bit and make them more textured. I would just offer him any nibbles the hotel provides for the children ....

At 7.5 months I would be tempted to just take the ella stuff and wing it with whatever's there. He can have extra milk without a problem if he doesn't like whats offered.

What about adding pasta? Either the tiny stuff you can buy for babies or just the normal stuff mashed up.

Also are you going self catering? If so they'll probably have a potato masher that may be ok rather than having to take a food mill. Can you check what utensils there will be with the holiday company?

Just realised you're going to a hotel, you might be able to mash enough with a fork

That's what I mean, I offered him pasta the other day, chopped with scissors and he wasn't having any of it. Still too much texture. Do I really have to over cook it?? Used to be a chef, I am not very good at making overcooked soggy food.

I think I'm quite good at over cooked soggy food Grin

I do cook it so its quite soft then get the potato masher on it. My dd ( also 7 months) prefers it if there's more sauce than pasta or rice. I suppose it helps her swallow?

ok will try again tmw, tks. Will get some rice too, have been trying to avoid it as it tastes of nothing, but I guess useful if nothing else.

I know everyone's different but you could try just giving him the finger foods. As long as he's having plenty of milk he won't go hungry. Use this as an opportunity to ditch the mush!
