Protein and a better night's sleep?

Just wondering, do any of you find your LO sleeps better if they have some kind of protein for their evening meal? Eg. Chicken/ fish/ egg etc. I've heard that it stays in the belly for longer before being digested and may make them feel a bit fuller for longer. Just wondering if this translates into less wakeful sleep?(coincidence or otherwise!)

IME (not a professional or anything but have had 3 babies) I would say it matters diddly squat what you feed them in the evenings..... Some of them sleep, some don't. That's it I'm afraid but, this too will pass Smile

Weetabix while in the bath

I've started giving DD a meal after she came home from nursery, instead of a bf. So her evening routine is like
5.30 home
5.45 solids
6.30 bath, bf, sleep

Started this at 1yo. This is to get her used to having some food in the evening and eventually make dropping bf easier. She used to have a bf when we get home at 5.30. Solids are carbs, fruit, protein (eggs usually) type of things.

I can say that after doing this for 2 weeks, there isn't any difference at all with her sleep, compared to just having a bf. There are nights she sleeps well, not a squeak between dream feed and 5.30ish. (She's an early riser). There are very very bad nights like last night where she wakes every 2-3 hours.

I really don't believe all baby wakes up for food.

Protein takes longer to digest tbh. But after my three I agree whole heartedly with Tommy. Soz!

I mean she always have nights that she slept through since 6mo. (She slept through every night between 2 and 6mo). It's because of this randomness that I don't think sleep training will work.

I find that it makes no difference at all what my DS eats as to how he sleeps. He can sleep through having only eaten a banana and dairylea triangle all day or wake every hour having had 3 big meals, snacks and loads of bm. I don't think there is a magic solution which will work for all babies, unfortunately. Just try it and see?

Got told by HV a few weeks ago to make sure DS had protein and/or carbs in evening meal for that reason. Have also started giving formula before bed and bf during the night. We are noticing a difference as he will sleep till we go up to bed at 10.30 where he used to wake every half hour or so for 3 hours then up every 1-2 hours during night. We also moved bedtime bottle to 6.30 and he is asleep by 7. DS is 6m but think it is a combination of all of this.
