Can you recommend some pouches or jars that are genuinely tasty (Stage 1-2)?

6mo DC3 is weaning well, moving from smooth to lumpy bits, and I am making all her food at home.

We are going on holiday for a week so I stocked up on a few jars and today we tried Chicken Sunday dinner. DD would not touch it. TBF it was like catfood. It stank of sick. Fishbake, like catfood. Ham and pasta, like nursing home gruel. Blurrrgh bleurgggh bluergh. But she then gobbled down homemade lentils mush. So must have been hungry.

Are all baby jars this rank? Are there any NICE pouches or jars? Ones that you would eat yourself?

Not that I'm actually going to eat them. But I don't feel can feed a child something I wouldn't eat myself.

Ella's are nicer - the chicken casserole with rice, or the Plum chicken and tarragon one.

Try normal food, as in the baby led weaning type. That would be my preference, not mush. Plus at 6 months (26 weeks) milk will still be the main food a baby eats, food is just for texture, taste and fun.

I have no idea, but hopefully someone else will. I will be starting to wean DC2 next week and we are going away in a month. I still remember the trauma of our first holiday with DC1, three years ago, when he refused to touch any of the jars I'd bought. On trying them ourselves, DH and I both agreed they looked and tasted vile. Would really like to find an appealing back-up for when homemade isn't possible this time round.

Like cheese says, you can just give your food, mushed with a fork.

I'm going away today for a couple of days to a hotel. I'm taking Ella pouches. My DS loves them. They are convenient, light and fairly inexpensive for the amount. (I get mine from Tesco). It's easier than worrying about what food the hotel will serve and how it's cooked. I can also feed him when he's hungry, which may not be the same as the set times at the hotel Smile. For brekkie I have C&G cereal. Just have to add milk.

Ella pouches are nice, I used them occasionally but you will also be able to give her a lot of the general food that is available, mushed up with milk if you prefer.

We started weaning this week and we're going away next week. I'm taking ella's pouches for convenience when we're out but taking the hand held blender so we can mush down some of what we eat, and will complement it with cooked veg and cucumber etc from our plates.

Another vote for the Ella's Kitchen ones. I've had a taste of them and they actually do have flavour. If you're only just weaning though try keeping flavours simple. If you make your own purée for example just do individual tastes like carrot or apple or banana then introduce combinations later on.

the plum chicken/tarragon one mentioned earlier is really nice. Otherwise, Ellas, like everyone says.

Me and my sister in law use the Ella's ones all the time and our kids love them. Asda do some in their Little Angels' range too which are the same kind of deal (all organic, no additives, no salt, no sugar) and a little bit cheaper. Mine will eat both and the ones I've tried are lovely. i guess it depends on budget. My vote would go to Ella's every time though :)

I'd just give 'proper' food, less faffing around with pouches which your LO may or may not eat.
