Hi ladies I'm really confused about what foods I can actually give my daughter (6 1/2 mts) as some people Iv spoken to have said oh no you can't give her that and others say its fine such as a small piece of toast (soldier) with a smidgen of butter on.
Can anyone just give me some names of foods she can actually have ?! Many thanks :)

FOOD.

Honey is the only real thing that's completely out because of a very rare risk of botulism. Wverything else, it's not so much food as the size, things which are hard and the exact size of a babies throat - like a grape, or things which are very hard and smaller like peanuts which can be inhaled because the risk of choking is higher until they've experience of eating.

So chop grapes up - I always quartered them length ways, and probably just avoid whole nuts, but you could have them crushed up in a meal if you want.

She will probably spit out and cry if you give her very hot spicy food.

She will not like food at the same temperature as an adult, so let it cool more than usual.

Yeah I've heard about honey being no good in the first year, so cheese and say if we have spag Bol she can have it? (puréed) just wondering about sauces cause of the sugar and salt contents?

If you try not to add salt to your food when cooking, then she can have whatever you eat, pureed or not - spag bol she could pick up with her fingers to eat

Spag bol is fine - make it yourself and don't add salt or sugar. There is absolutely no need to puree any of her food.

Honey is a no-no because of the risk of botulism (nice!).

Chop up grapes and cherry tomatoes as the skins can be tough and present a choking risk. Nuts are also a choking risk. Some mums prefer to avoid giving apple until babies are confident at handling food.

If there are no allergies in your family then you can give absolutely anything you want to. My DD loves hot and spicy food, each child is different.

If you're giving sweet sticky stuff such as raisins, finish the meal with a cube of cheddar to help neutralise acids.

Forgot to say - think about salt intake over a few days, so if you give slightly over the limit one day, just give less the next.

Ok great thanks! Grin
