I haven't done a great job so far, just given him things that he can hold like bread sticks. He had omelette today but wasn't too impressed with it, he made a go of holding it and he obv understands what food is and that it tastes good, but I think he is getting frustrated with it not filling him up!

Am I being too impatient? I tend to let him play around/eat until he whinges/seems bored. I do think he is quite hungry for food tho. He is having a bit of puree, and I try to let him use the spoon as well as feeding him, but I think he'd' rather have proper food. Jsut not sure what I can give him that will make him feel fuller/more satisfied for the periods when he is grumpy but has already had milk.

I know things will gradually improve but I am just a bit tired atm and have been rubbish at giving him our meals - he has enjoyed chicken but then lost interest the other day after gagging on a big bit, he definitely likes it tho - but jsut for sucking the juices out of.

He also enjoyed sucking on cherry tomatoes, and loved very ripe banana - but these are foods I don't feel comfortable giving him every day, tho we always have them around! Banana -constipation, and toms - acidic and used to give rashes to DD on chin cos she ate loads of them...

he didn't really like cooked apple. Likes some ella's purees. But I really CBA to make any myself. He hasn't really gone for roasted root veg yet, done a bit of sucking but not REALLY into it.

Am I just getting a bit fecked off iwth the inbetween phase?

Mashed potato

Mashed sweet potato

Porridge (I find if you make it quite stogy it can be picked up and eaten)

Pasta (I used to kind of hide mince and sauce inside penne if that makes sense!)

He can have a go with fingers or spoon for the above

DS loves cheesy mash. I put a baked potato in the oven and when it's done, scrape out the insides and mix with a teeny bit of whole milk and a handful of grated cheddar cheese. Then I cut the skin into wedges and plop the filling back in these. He picks them up and spends ages sucking every last bit of mash off them.

aha, planning to give him some of my leftover baked potato tmw, will also have a go with yr suggestion QK!

Thanks for these ideas, I will keep trying...

How soft do you make yr pasta? DS doesn't seem to manage picking it up very well, he needs a large portion of whatever he's eating to be sticking out of his fist or else he just sucks on his fingers.

QK - love the cheesy mash idea. Will steal! I found here that gnocchi was easier for DS to start with rather than pasta (just my experience). It's pretty easy to make but I'm lazy and buy a bag, chuck it in the freezer and then just boil 5-6 chunks of it at a time for DS. It cooks well from frozen. I then coat the gnocchi in different sauces and use it as a way of getting extra veg into him. Sweet potato and chicken goes down well. Not your usual pasta sauce but DS likes it.

If he's hungry he can have more milk.
Fatt stuff is most filling, so avocado, meat, egg yolk, cheese, spread real butter on stuff.

DS will only actually eat fusilli shaped pasta (will suck sauce of other shapes). No idea why this is but whatever. I cook it for longer than I would if making dinner for me or DH. So it is soft rather than al dente.
